Duality

Been leveling my ninja and I'm just about to pick up Duality, but I'm bit confused on how it works exactly. After some quick searches on the net, I've seen mixed opinions.

I know it only applies to weapon skills. And judging from the tooltip, it applies the extra combo bonus on just the first attack, meaning that the extra damage amounts to 100 potency on most skills and 150 for Spinning Edge, either no chance of a crit? If so, the ability seems a bit lackluster, especially given its somewhat long cooldown. How is it in practice?

addional effects like slashing debuff oder armor crush extending huton won't apply, combo bonus still works. in the end it's just extra damage. nothing special

A boring cooldown that they should either totally rework and remove from the game...
I've the feeling they lacked idea for the ninja 58-60 skills...
Dream within a Dream suffer from the same issue.

I macro'd it into Aeolian Edge, not sure that is the best thing to do but not really any space for it on my cross hot bar.

I did the very same. And as it was said that's the only thing it's really useful with, macroing it is fine. Don't buy into the "macros are bad and you're bad if you use them" bit. It beats trying to sacrifice other useful skills on a hotbar, or creating an overly complicated setup.

Macros on weaponskills is a dps loss, your next gcd will clip and especially for ninja, that's gonna mean all of your ogcd timing and mudras are going to be misaligned. Please don't tell people that using them on GCDs is fine, it is not.

Ok, thanks. It definitely seems like just another button to press for some minor burst damage. I suppose it's more useful in PvP than PvE.

Duality doubles the damage from the next single target weapon skill you use it with. Say Aeolian Edge does 2000 damage on a normal hit, when used with duality it will now do 2000 damage twice, for a total of 4000. It is an amazing skill.

Really? Everything I've read says it doesn't double the damage because combo bonuses only apply once. Say, you use Duality for Aeolian Edge from behind during a combo you get one attack at 320 potency, the Duality attack will only hit for 100 potency (no combo bonus). Or is the tooltip just poorly worded?

no, you get two hits at 320.
