I certainly put time into the game, and for a brief moment when it was new, I actively worked on the 210 step. Despite the fact that the stats weren't favorable, and I didn't even like the look of it. I finally got all the unidentifiables, and for lack of gil/leveled crafters (I started a new FC, so that's were the gil went), I'm effectively dead in the water on the 210 step. Got the oils. No clue what the 240 step entails, and at this point, what little interest I had is RAPIDLY fading.
I think I can say at this point I gave it the "fair chance" I said I would, and remain uninspired, unmotivated, and rather disappointed. Definitely no 4.0 relic for me.
Well, i have my 240 relic now since a month and I will carry it for another 2-3 months, before I upgrade it again within a few weeks in 3.4 I guess.
The longest relic steps so far (200->210 and 230->240) were around max. 40-60h 'work' in a 3-6 month period.
That IS NOT MUCH!

40-60h of work that you do not want to do can be quite a lot. maddening amounts of eso to farm does not get me hyped to do dungeon roulettes all day, quite the opposite really.Well, i have my 240 relic now since a month and I will carry it for another 2-3 months, before I upgrade it again within a few weeks in 3.4 I guess.

Trial, 50 and Expert each day yield quite a few. I try not to miss those. Hunts, S ranks especially can be very good and are all that I do mostly. I'm farming for my second relic atm and am taking it slow for the umbrites and sands. It'll get done when it gets done.
yeah, that's the thing, and kinda the paradox of the casual player's need to get the relic. doing it at a pace means you can do the stuff you want to do and get the relic, but it will be worth less as a functional weapon and will be overtaken by a tomestone weapon sooner, grinding incessantly for it gets the weapon done sooner, but well..."roll for sanity loss"![]()

Everything beside levelling, crafting/gathering and being afk in idleshire is actually working towards the relic, since everything gives you eso/poes.
Relic is for those who do at least 20-60h of current and outdated content per relic step (i.e. actually playing the game for 1-2h a day).
What do you do, when you're done?
a) doing all the content you always wanted to do, now with your cool new weapon, although not having it shouldn't have prevented you from doing those contents anyway
b) nice, i can now show my nice glamour when afking in idleshire
c) uff, finally done. Now i can stop playing this boring game and return next patch. Maybe.
I guess it's b) or c)?

you can bold, underline and italicize the 40 to 60h, but not only is that taking up the lion's share of that time per day, whether it is fun for the player is also up in the air, since those were the same dungeons grinded for tomestone gear. The point I was making is that 40-60 hours of playtime is going to be a lot less appealing and more of a wall when it is something that is no longer fun to the player. What do you want to do instead?

If this is not fun for the player, then playing current and outdated content is not fun for that player. Ergo he should stop playing something which is no fun to him.you can bold, underline and italicize the 40 to 60h, but not only is that taking up the lion's share of that time per day, whether it is fun for the player is also up in the air, since those were the same dungeons grinded for tomestone gear. There are only three options, if 'playing' 40h a month:
A) you do current/old content and cap all tombstones
B) you do current/old content and buy relic/gear
C) you do not much content at all
