Guide looks like garbage to me..
Not sure why you would pentameld at this point. This will be my starting point at the drop of 3.4, along with a stockpile of materia to hit the mins for 4-star:
http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/UMA3
6 sockets open, 2 can get +10 craftsmanship, all 6 can get +7 control. IV materia for 1 overmeld on head/hands/belt/legs/feet/rings. But feel free to spend 5 times as much for that minuscule marginal gain.
As far as head, gloves, pants and shoes go you can max stats without spending much, if you're gonna do it anyways why not do it now? While materia V is going lower with the rank 6 and 7 moogle quest rewards, once the supply from Moogles is gone they are going back up, so it makes no difference whether you meld now or later.
Now, chest and accessories? If you already plan to go all out on them you can just do it now and save tools for whatever extra stat you need for 4 stars, or you can meld after we know the stats required for 4 stars.
Either way the gil you're saving by waiting is marginal, and like I said materia V will reach a lowest point then it will go back up, since moogles provide a very limited supply per player.
That's why I'm stockpiling materia and not melding. Buy now, sell what I don't need when 3.4 comes out.
or maybe put that stockpile to some use now. 3.4 is months away and you wouldn't have to deal with playing catch-up with melds to hit 4 star mins later. you may call it minuscule but you're limiting yourself to hasty touch sequences when you could do better.
but different philosophies and you're welcome to yours.
I expect 3.4 in early September sometime.
I plan on max melding those pieces of gear that can be max melded. If it cannot (MH, OH, BP) then I will wait until we know what the 4 star requirements are to meld that piece.
Those're my thoughts on this subject.
Loading on control (+~110) would be roughly equal to starting with 1200 quality on 3-stars
Loading on craftsmanship (+~85) would give me a little bit of wiggle room on my progress
3-stars are currently easy, that would make them near trivial
Total cost: 40-50M/character (4 characters)
Total cost of my plan: ~10-15M/character
cost/benefit says I'll stick with my plans
So expanding on similar topic. What would the best melds be for the ironworks Apron of Crafting?
Rather then creating a new thread for this. I am guessing Craftsmanship and then control?
And many thanks in advance![]()
For the apron the best would be melding 2 control V to reach cap
Then whatever craftmanship you got
...
And in comment about the BiS adviced by the website...
I would say that they forgot CPIV on both main and off tool
