Wait, are we going to be able to hire people from the Grand Company as party members? Or am I completely off track here?

It was something that had been talked about/considered a while back in the past (pre-HW), but never came to fruition D:
I'm assuming because some of the dungeons require more than one person with actual human intelligence to deal with some mechanics, in terms of boss placement and mechanics both (can you imagine if they never reacted to CoinCounter? though, I guess they could just program a reaction based on the skill being used by their target... "If <t> use 100-Tonz Swing -> Then move 15 steps; opposite direction of <t>" - but I'm being hypothetical).
Only other difference is that a.) There would be less people using the DF, so the social aspect may or may not mean lower number of people to fill parties, b.) You won't learn how to deal with the unexpected things/behavior that come with playing with other humans (learning how to heal the major derps are frustrating, but I consider it heavy training? xD The more dynamic circumstances you come to deal with, the more you learn how to compensate, react or patch up other things...)
I'd want this muchly...
I'd probably have a Miqote, Hyur, and Au Ra..... looks either based on either "that looks awesome", or "oh hey, that kinda looks like [insert anime character here].... no one will see them, so no one can judge me! \o/"
I'd make them after my alts, since i have one of each race, but then I'd be a little sad if I saw one bite the dust for what ever reason

My chocobo can't dodge AoE and sometimes looks like he's ever too eager to run into them on purpose. I'd imagine that could be a holdup with the NPCs. But I would like this. Maybe instead of using them for dungeons, they could allow them for field content, like Fates or Leves.
Dragon's Dogma Online (which unfortunately didn't make it to the West) allowed you to recruit NPCs. Aside from being a major fan of the solo game, the hired Pawns was one of the things I was really looking forward to. But it is understandable that it would ruin a social part of the game if the players started to rely on it too much. Maybe they could cost GC seals or something to hire.
