Blue as support DPS. Q.Q
Blue as support DPS. Q.Q

If they gave us Dancer as a Healer or DPS I would be good to go.
(Preferably Healer. Please.)
I still hope for class using a Scythe, Fan, or a Flute! @_@
And why cant we be an Ascian too? >Floating and teleporting around firing up Laserbeams!

I'm sure these things have been mentioned, but it's not like SAM can't have some damage mitigation skills and still be DPS as a Job. BLM can mitigate damage on themselves and others, NIN had perfect dodge which avoided one phys attack completely, MNK has an INT down debuff, DRG can parry and so on.
3rd Eye can just be like old Perfect Dodge. Imagine how NIN got enmity manipulation skills 50-60, and just place SAM there, with mitigation skills for the party. Either way, I'm sure they have an interesting way to make them play out. Especially if they add battle system mechanics that we currently don't have now.

The only damage dealing Jobs in the game currently without a defensive ability that can be used to reduce or mitigate damage are Machinist and Summoner. Machinist makes up for this for having access to just about every debuff in the game, while Summoner makes up for it by having a pet that can tank for them and one of the most powerful debuffs in the game (Supervirus). So... honestly, I could see Samurai getting something like Keen Flurry or their own version of Rampart/Shadowskin.
Also, on "but Samurai wear heavy armor and therefore are a tank!" Dragoons traditionally have shared equipment with Paladins, Warriors, and Dark Knights. There are different kinds of "heavy armor" in the world, Eorzean Dragoons seem to prefer chainmail and scalemail, while the tanks prefer heavier chainmail and platemail, and both types use thickly padded leather or cloth. So, Samurai, if a damage dealer, will likely wear "of Maiming" equipment.
Something... something... edginess... shadows... wait... I'm supposed to be a paragon of love and justice!
Mitigation skills on a SAM would be helpful, I am still really keen on the idea of a SAM having to charge his/her strikes (like BRD/MCH do now) but being up close. The worry I have if we don't do this is were going to have another dancing DPS jumping from flank/back while keeping up with the combo. Giving us slower attacks by charge time mixed with potential skills like Barrage/Duality to perform faster strikes or even a skill that eliminates the charge and speeds the SAM up for X secs. The one issue that would come to mind though would be in PvP settings, I could only imagine the pain unless say at level 30 (or by default) he gets a stance that adds the charge time at an increase in raw potency to all skills so in PvP it could be dropped?
I mean I could be completely wrong in what the majority wants, but a charge time on melee strikes seems to make more sense than a gun having to charge. Though to be fair I didn't read about the gauss or what it makes it charge.

4 new jobs at expansion (yes unlikely)
Samurai: Dmg
Red Mage: Tank
Blue Mage: Dmg
Dancer: Healer
after reading many speculations on next jobs, seems like this would satisfy most. (yes i know of all the arguments regarding which roles new jobs would be)

Too bad ranger hasn't been hinted at yet. Your post made my mind instantly jump to ranger as a gun/crossbow wielding str based dps. And as for the int melee caster red mage could possibly fit.We don't particularly need more tanks either. Really the only niche that isn't filled is melee caster and ranged STR. Though as most people are saying, it'll probably be a STR and INT DPS, playstyle is a tossup. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if we didn't get a tank or healer in the Xpac.

I just can't see them adding a true ranged job, as much as they really should without making it a support DPS. They're worried people will flock to the job over others to make the game easy mode. Early ARR we saw this with Bards and Black Mages and the hardcore playerbase purposely excluded melee DPS for a time. Machinist might of ruined those chances, it's a fine gun DPS but it's bogged down by being support like Bard.
They also took strafing away... kinda, but they could add a dual pistol class and make that the ranger job. Oh hey, what about Gun Mage from Final Fantasy X-2? That could be the "Blue Mage" & Ranger job people were asking for (or not depending on perspective), and it's kind of a unique class in itself. Dual pistols + Blue Magic... honestly they could make it work for FFXIV. As long as they don't make it as busy as MCH.

Of course there are a set of fans who would love a gunblade job... perhaps they should consider Rune Fencer for that weapon. Red Mage could be the gunblade job, but they're more rapiers and florets.

If they are going to add another ranged based job my money would be on CORSAIR
Being that COR in FFXI was a sword/gun class it might fit the current unoccupied role of sword based DPS nicely (tho this in all reality will prob go to RDM)
Consider this: We have DRG/NIN as an example that have ranged attacks that server as utility moves mainly correct? Think of Corsair utilising a move such as this as part of their combo. First two moves are sword based weaponskills followed by a third that is ranged based, the ranged move being 120 potency normally and 300 in combo (or w.e)
Second point, we already have a card based buff system with AST. This could be expanded for COR.
Lore wise we already know we have pirates in the game so should be fairly easy to write in (would be great to see a rivalry between COR and ROG like the old rivalry between BLU and COR)
