Was it ever confirmed that SAM will be a dps? I just had my money on that being the new tank class.

Actually, during HW's development, they were originally thinking of making SAM a tank class but they couldn't decided how to implement it in Ishgard, story-wise, and went with DRK instead.
They also tossed around the idea of Chemist being a healer before going with AST.
Not so much speculation as much as a want. A warhammer swinging tank, perhaps based off a certain slick Garlean? Would be funny if he was the job quest npc. "What are your doing here I thought you were...." Nero winks, "Shuuuuu. I got a good thing going here." I would love that, he is by far my favorite NPC.
Green Mages is a melee healer/support class that wields a 2h hammer, I love to see that class in the game as a healer. I just do not want another tank is a knight, another healer that is in robes and casts from afar and another DoW as dps.Not so much speculation as much as a want. While I am almost certain that we'll be getting SAM and RDM, and BLU is a distinct possibility, I would like to see Void Mage added, if only because SE could probably do some pretty nifty things with it. Perhaps have them attack by partially summoning Voidsent through small rifts (hands and claws and the like) for their weaker skills, then increase the size of the rifts for higher level skills. Make them a melee/magic ranged DPS, with damage type being dependent on the skill they use.
Of course, given that SE is most likely adding tank, healer, and DPS withouth doubling down on any given role, I have no idea how that would fit with RDM and SAM unless RDM was a healer, and that wouldn't make much sense as others have mentioned.
Yoshida said they won't do 3jobs at once next time since too stressful.
They said no more new Jobs for X.X Major Updates due to it being too stressful when they were already working on new Jobs for a expansion when they released Rogue/Ninja in 2.X.
The actual amount for X.0 expansions remains a bit uncertain currently as the rumors about how many new jobs are all over the place until a real confirmation on what New Jobs and how many we are getting for 4.0 arrives in Fanfest.

I doubt something like this would come around in 4.0 but I would like to see an adjustment to the job system where you choose based on your preference what path you'll take. For example, if you play Marauder you would be given the choice to take the Warrior (tank) path or the Berserker's (DPS) path. They could apply similar choices to each job to allow for a much wider variety of job options without needing to actually add new jobs. Just something I would like to see added down the road.

Shield tank please

In a story that I am working on I have a character who would be considered a Shield-Tank, though in my story I call his class Paladin ironically. Anyway, his main stat is defense and he has defensive spells, don't think I gave him a healing spell, since it doesn't fit with his position. Anyway, the weapon is a hybrid weapon I call a Shielblade; three guesses what that is, lol. Basically he has "mini" shields straped to his arms that hide a blade inside that allow him to fight and defend using one weapon not two; though it is a dual wield weapom so there are two anyway. This image looks similar to that concept.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
