Shanda Games is this se or is it a different company. se may make ffxiv but a different company run ffxiv in china.

Shanda Games isn't Square Enix. Square enix may have some control over ip but not much in port to another country.

Shanda Games not run ffxiv run aion as well

and Shanda Games is running the ffxiv in China

I agree, I think the (imo very justified) reaction to how much content there was to cover between 2.0 and 3.0 has scared them into making the statements that set this whole thing off.

4.0 is way to early in the game's life cycle to implement a simple skip potion that invalidates many players' time and effort getting to where they are. I'd like to point out, it was less than a single year ago that I was running the 2.x storyline to unlock HW and we are already talking about completely removing that experience for new players. There is so much that could be accomplished just re-working and streamlining the entire 2.0 - 3.0 quest line, streamlining dungeon/trial unlocks and increasing exp gain that a pay to skip option is frankly insulting.

We as a community should expect more of our hypothetical new players than to assume the only thing they would want is to skip all the content that we current players ( I assume, since you're still here) enjoyed going through.

Oh no doubt. I liked the approach they've started taking of trimming out the fluff quests in the MSQ to shorten in. That seemed like the sensible way to help the new player's experience. This seems a bit like it came from out of left field.

He's done this before though with off the cuff comments in interviews. Heck, he's done it in live letter type situations too when he puts his people on the spot with requests. So hopefully this is just a flight of fancy that he'll reconsider.

no i don't want to remove any quest between 2.0-3.0 i enjoy them to much. nor do i think thin them down is need. what does one consider fluffy quest. look I here been since 1.0 all content is enjoyable.

consider wow model for expansion and ffxiv model for expansion ffxiv has best aproach to expansion.

so, just to move the conversation somewhere i think would be more interesting: i haven't heard too many creative suggestions for how to avoid this worst case scenario (the one in the OP).

I was just thinking that a lot of the complaints about how long it takes for new players to catch up to friends might be addressed if it were at all possible to quest with a party I remember when I got one of my friends into the game, I still ended up following him around helping out but we had to constantly drop and re-join party and it was overall a huge headache to try and cover the story together.

At least then you can run around fetching crates with your buddies (they should still remove some of the crate-fetching while they're taking a look at these quest lines, however)

any other creative suggestions? I think releasing 4.0 as a standalone expansion could also have some interesting potential.

We don't need any creative suggestions. Collectively screaming NO! as loudly as we can on all of the XIV community hubs will get the message across. Also, Heavensward is for the most part a stand alone story. They could pick up any story they like from the point where a realm reborn ended if they care. You just have to buy heavensward to know what came of the events at the end of ARR.

SE's approach so far (streamlining and upping the experience so you can level on just the abridged MSQ) seems like a pretty fair approach. And they definitely have put in a good number of new player aids which is really nice.

For new things, I like the suggestion you made of being able to help lower level friends with more of the content. Speed buffing and dropping party can be a bit of a pain.

You know I was against this when it staryed floating around, but I find the more I think on it, the more reasonable this is.

Part of me wishes it was for vets not new players. Like say you have a PLD to 60, I think it would be reasonable to have an option to raise an alt to the same level. I'm not sure letting new people jump is a good idea, I mean you should have seen some of the groups I have taken through Niddhog this week.

But as I said as a paid option to raise alts, and let them skip the msq you have already done would be nice. IDK, I'm sort of torn on this issue.

Almost all games I play, The most important thing is the story and how it brings me along for a ride. FF has been doing that for years..
If/When this comes to NA I can cancel my account come back 10 years later pay my $10 + boost get all the story I've missed and watch it in the book. That would save me ~ $1200 and I could spend that money on other game.

So I started writing this not wanting this leveling item. However I do kind of want it now. So I don't have to play this game for a little story every 3 months.
