    @Khalithar:
Then you'd get complaints that people wasted their money on jumping to that level of progress only to get a roadblock there, so you'd either have to make the trial so easy it wouldn't matter or piss off the people who'd want to buy that potion, making the whole introduction of it pointless.
And it still wouldn't fix any of the other problems, like the huge impact on economy, the fact that the new players would straight jump into 2 out of 54 instances and miss out on the remaining 52 (because, let's face it, most of the content in FFXIV isn't in endgame, especially not right after an expansion hit).

I can't understand why anyone would play a Final Fantasy game and want to skip the story line. O.o
One of my FC mates does, she's an amazing healer and really good overall, but she doesn't care even remotely about the story, she's only interested in doing new dungeons and new content. She skips *every* cutscene and skips through NPC dialogue as fast as possible.

Let's assume a hypothetical scenario here and while I know players are against this potion on principle alone (and I respect your opinion on the matter, it's perfectly fair to feel that way) this is more directed to the players concerned about bad players in DF. What if the potion jumped you straight to level 50 and the trip to ishgard. But before you could proceed with the story quests, you went through a tutorial that went over how to play the class (no class is really that complex at 50 in my opinion) and what your expected role is. WoW did something like this with the heroic dungeons where you had to prove a certain level of competency/skill in a trial designed for your role before you could enter.
There's really no discussion if this point isn't considered. If they don't have some sort of introductions quest line and trial to get players situated into the environment they're jumping into, this is by far a very very bad idea.

Considering the state of game design, you'd have to be astoundingly bad or inept (that is, the individuals who do sub-300 dps in current EX roulette) to not be able to meet the bare requirements. This has been an ongoing problem with the design of the content and honestly, it's going to cause problemls both ways when they try to introduce something like Ozma (which i happen to like) again. We're looking at th basic requirements of knowing how your job plays thorugh a 1-2-3 combo or procs.

    1) Maybe they don't like the story. Shocking I know.
    2) This game is an MMORPG, which means that gameplay has a major importance for some people.
    3) The story in this game can be only done solo (Aka, you cannot group quest it, ruining the experience of a MMORPG)
    4) If the story locks major points of a game, it can cause nuisance. In MMORPGs this is unacceptable for some (many) people. In RPGs it's common, but there is always some degree of freedom however.

I can think of other reasons, but once again just because it's a "Final Fantasy" game, it doesn't mean people should follow its story, ESPECIALLY if this game is an MMORPG.
I personally don't like it so I skip everything, so do many others, so while we play the "Final Fantasy" game, it's not our fault if the story just doesn't please us, slows us down and, eventually, want to skip it. I do that also on normal RPGs when the story is bad or doesn't interest me and just play the game. I remember hating the story in all Star Ocean games but the gameplay was a ton of fun, so I just played for that instead.

It almost looks like that people forget that these are GAMES, not VISUAL NOVELS!

I mean don't get me wrong, we can get both stories AND gameplay in RPGs and it's one of the main reasons why I love the genre, but don't forget that they are still games in the core.

You can have your level skip potion when you then have to play through the entire storyline. Fact of the matter is that without the buffer of playtime many people do not learn anything about their class. In fact, many people would play through a tutorial and ignore it, because it is "boring" and blocks them off from going and doing raiding.

It would be FAR BETTER to go the opposite of a level skip potion.

Make it so you can select a player target and level sync match. Change all story scenarios to allow for parties. Add in a "story sync" function that allows one to be at the same story step as the target they are level sync'd to. This way when someone invites a friend in they can play at the same level, together, through the story from start to finish.

Sorry if I sound hostile, I just got out of a dungeon run where the assigned tank only knew how to use Fast Blade and hit the stun button on occasion. And he was fucking level 40.

Posted this in another thread as well.

People act like its still an occurring thing. Ever since patch 3.1 the filler quests are nonexistent! Also without the MSQs how would you level up quickly? The reason there are so many of them is to get you to lvl cap without having to do much else. I blame the players for this one since they are so used to fetch quests for exp, in the end we got quantity over quality for MSQs so people could level up quicker.

So lets say we only get a story skipper and not a level up potion, you honestly think people are going to stick around and just FATE/run dungeons they don't even know anything about to lvl up? In the end both options are horrible and this whole omg new players crap needs to stop.
    It's still full of filler.

With exception of people not learning class, why would you care if someone skips story and/levels?
Here is the answer to that. Why should another player have acess to stuff that it took you years to get to while they get there instantly. It make all your hard work worthless. Doing it for older raids is one thing but for the main story no. People who progressed to that point deserve there right to be there.

Its the attitude like that is the reason why ARR economy is tanking and has tanked since Launch.

That's... not exactly a good reason (and gil is still mostly worthless). Anyway, I proposed an idea where the level up potion will still require you to go through the ARR and 2.1-2.5 MSQ's, but abridged (it will also force you to do the Class/Job quests when you hit specific level points in the MSQ). If the MSQ you're doing is leaning more towards filler than plot relevance, then they become Side-Quests. If you recall the pointless goose-chase you had to go on before you could fight Garuda, that would be changed into side-quests and Garuda would be available after getting one 'dark crystal.'

Hey a person wants to pay to skip the MSQ fine but no insta-50/60 or w/e the level cap may be at the time.

Why play a story driven game if you have no intention of watching the story in the game?

Otherwise wouldnt something like LoL or overwatch or FPS's be better suited to you?
