Clearly judging by how the current playerbase has trouble with Weeping City, the levelling process has done jack all to improve skill levels..
Having an idea how the skills work goes through dungeons. You think it's really smart to put a healer in extreme primal or leave alone a trial like niddhogg that many fail on without having some decent knowledge? Hell no. Look at vault, healers fail there too. DPS check fails on adds in nid, which is also fail.

No one has, which is why no one has any evidence to the contrary. Anyone who says otherwise is in my opinion a liar using a fallacy to add fictional weight to their position of which none have proof to back it up. None of them have even bothered trying to photoshop some fake proof because they know people will figure it out. The gating was not done for the sole purpose of stopping RMT infesting HW zones but it doing so has been a blessing I am not willing to give up without one hell of a fight.

    - help get people's newly recruited friends to the latest content quickly.

Given how relatively new FFXIV is, it doesn't make much sense to implement yet. *yet*

Take a cue from Final Fantasy XI and design your expansions like that. A previous poster on page one has already explained the XI requirements for some of the more exclusive and less exclusive expacs. XI's team handled expansions very well. I agree that you shouldn't lock jobs behind play requirements if someone bought an expac to access them. See: FFXI Treasures of Aht Urhgan for excellent strategy in handling a new area but keeping jobs accessible.

It's worth mentioning that FFXI didn't tie several dungeons to story and that speeds things up a lot. (There was only one BCNM fight and one Shadow Lord fight for the original main story.) I understand why the devs want this for XIV but now you find yourself in a pickle when it comes to catching up and time management for players with friends and alts.

As someone with several alts sitting at level 50, I know I am not going to grind that much side-story. There's no EXP reward for the amount of work and the queue for so many 8-man raids from 2.0-3.0 is a time-waste.

You could consider reducing the amount of questing from 2.0-3.0: take out every 'fetch me' and 'horse sniffing' quest and even consider a bypass-dungeon option for those catching up. If they want to do roulettes etc. later, they'll just have to go in and run those dungeons later. That shouldn't be a problem for people who enjoy their dungeon runs. I'd also suggest dropping the guildhest runs from that line of story, and dropping the second mandatory run of Qarn.

Lastly with a former XI expac like Treasures of Aht Urhgan no one had to buy an extra pass from a cash shop for complete access to the expansion pack. It seems counterproductive to make people pay for another item to have full access to something they've already paid for once before.

Yep, I'm one of them. Though I normally do care about a story in games, this one was just so boring that as soon as I got to level 25 I decided to skip the rest. I did watch all the Heavenward cut scenes though as they were good

And the low level experience was boring as fuck with having to run long distances over empty space to turn in a single quest and having only a few buttons to press when I actually did fight.

So I did what any new player would do. I used the 90 boost. Which also gave me a free mount I could use, got me right into the game where I get my skills thrown at me over a short series of quests. I got my entire kit dumped on me over like, 4 quests. with no pseudo flowchart and nothing but tooltips to go off of. I had an ability book list of all my abilities, I had talents I could select, and that was it.

So I wound up just hitting buttons, and hit the buttons that light up. Carried me through dungeons (when bear tanks were not soloing the dungeon for me), carried me through the open world.

It just so happens I had gone marksman hunter, cause what I had heard about the game (about it being difficult and all that) was out of date by a good 10 years and wanted to play something that at least could kite. Turns out that was unnecessary.

I think people are reading way too much into this. I also think people forget that this games 2.0 lock out is not the only lockout it has...there's ilvl lockouts, and I just looked at the 3.3 patch notes...these people you are already condemning, before they can even access the quest to unlock hullbreaker hard they need to finish the MSQ "Heavensward"...

A lot of the dungeons associated with level 60 requires you to beat the MSQ "Heavensward"...moving on, no where in that post do I see him directly saying he would alleviate quest requirements...he only said "allow players to experience aspects of 3.0" for all intents and purposes...I think he just means flying in Falcons nest lol

If there are people with MONEY that WANT this and are willing to give more money towards the future of FFXIV then why would they not?? There are a bunch of people that play MMOs only caring about current end game stuff and current raids and if more of those players DID start FFXIV they would just skip ALL story and jump to it anyways. Heck when I first started playing and Binding Coil came out EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. in my raiding LS skipped ALL main story stuff and were totally annoyed by it to the point of even being annoyed during updates where they had to do story to unlock new raid stuff. Personally, I appreciate and enjoy the story and they won't just drop the story but there ARE people that don't play MMO's for the story at all.

It isn't like this would create new characters at the level cap with no intro to skills or abilities and just throw them in dungeons, doing 1-50 already you just kill some random enemies for quests that pose ZERO threat and can die by just mashing one skill anyways and you are forced to do what? 10 dungeons maybe? You think 10 dungeons to get to 50 means that people wont be just carried through them while they press like 1 or 2 buttons?

People acting like this would be the end of the game are over reacting and reading WAY too much into it. The game currently from 1-50 doesn't teach people a damn thing on HOW to play the game and actually for most classes they need to relearn their whole skills and rotations at 50 anyways so if there are people willing to give money to them for that jump in level then I say they should take those rich dumb peoples money. Sorry if I do not agree with the general knee jerk reactions here but I do not see this as something that will ruin the game.

They should do it. Raiders shouln't have to slough through the story to start raiding. Plus the influx of new players is no doubt going to be better than the majorits that are still playing

Just bundle the next expansion that grants players 300% EXP gains up to level 60. The bonus exp is only applied to the character's current highest level combat, crafting and gathering class. Could also be a new NPC that gives new players a set of untradeable HQ every 10 levels from 1-50 and ever two levels 50-60.

They'll only have to do each leveling dungeon twice at most while still actually having to play through content. I think an instant leveling type potion would be one of the worst case scenarios as levels 1-50 are essentially the tutorial for the game. After all, there's already a problem with people not understanding how to play their class in DF, and that would only exacerbate the situation.
