Even if third party tools were involved the case still does not make sense. Why would an opponent on the enemy team call out a specific drk on another team if they most likely know about the chat filters? That makes no sense.
Saying "If you have an incredibly prolific disease just stay away from the thing that's heavily integrated into our society and is how most people socialize and (should) enjoy themselves" is a bad answer that doesn't work.
Please never interact with anyone with mental health. As someone who both deals with and studies mental health issues for future professional reasons, the ideal of "Steeling oneself to the horrors that trigger your mental issues" doesn't work and you have a misunderstanding of immersion therapy.
Telling someone to walk off a broken bone is asking for that bone to set in ugly ways much, much later than it should've >_> We shouldn't be in condoning an environment that would allow that sort of behavior.
There is a bit of an fallacy of moderation. When one side is saying "Hey folks, please just try to be nicer. Here is also some tips to deal with this issue" and the other side is saying "Nah, just deal with it/Nah, talking nasty shit is just fine." There really isn't an answer besides "Stop saying nasty shit. This is a game, they didn't just smack you in the face." People ought to mature and making excuses for the behavior, whether that be "It just happens" or "Nah, it's okay that it does happen" and not "It's your fault for getting upset by this."
Lie or not, let's not kid ourselves this stuff happens all the time in any sort of content in online communities and it needs to stop
I'm sorry but the fault lies on the person who said the thing like a 13 year old, as chances are they ought to act their age (That is to say, there is never an appropriate age to tell someone to kill themselves) and not tell people to kill themselves.

To the OP, thank you, you've made a very good PSA and initial post. The call for less toxic language in the FFXIV community (Or online really) is very reasonable and most people ought to respect that idea. Whether or not the actual incident occurred isn't important because it happens all the damn time, PvP, PvE, or just through minor interactions. This thread is filled with horrific misunderstandings of mental illness and or just blatant wrong and gross behavior towards people with mental health.
Also as a side note, lmao'ing at mirta for believing and saying right wing nationalist propaganda in response to Culfinrandir making a somewhat reasonable comparison to recent racism (particularly black focused racism) committed by the police, antisemitism in the south, and a homophobic mass murderer. Culfinrandir you're a pretty cool dude.

If the OP was on ps4 and unable to use third party tools to read enemy GC chat...then WHO WAS PHONE??? (I will be stunned if anyone remembers this meme)

TC, FFXIV disallows communication between members of opposing teams in PVP precisely to prevent this exact thing from happening. Either you are being untruthful about the entire situation even occurring in the first place, or you were using third-party software to allow you to do something the developers purposely made impossible within the normal programming of the game. I'm going to assume the latter and point out that if you were purposely circumventing the programming of the game, which is, in fact, there to protect those like you with delicate sensibilities from comments like this, then you are 100% percent culpable for any 'injury' you might feel resulted in it. Insofar as one may apply the term 'injury' to hurt feelings while still keeping a straight face.
I'll ALSO point out that reporting comments made by someone you should not be able to communicate with in the first place will at the very least make you seem very silly, if it doesn't actively get you in trouble with the GMs for baldly admitting to using third-party programs to play the game when the official policy on them is more or less 'don't ask, don't tell'. If I were the GM, I'd give you a warning on principle for having the gall to do something you're not supposed to do and then complain about the results.
Since people seem to like analogies so much...if your neighbor had a big guard dog, and you decided to jump over the big, secure fence they put around their yard to keep that dog in, would you honestly expect people to feel bad for you when you got bitten? Trash talking the opposite team is a normal and expected part of competing; if you can't handle it, stay on your own side of the fence.
And to all the white knights who seem to want the entire internet to change their ways for the sake of people with 'mental health issues', well...why should we? If you have an issue, it's your responsibility to deal with it, whether that be by seeking medical help or avoiding situations which you know might exacerbate your specific issues. The only person obligated to cater to your problems is your therapist; the rest of us are completely within our rights to ignore them and carry on enjoying the game.
