    A new PVP community hub?

So PVPReborn closed down Wednesday. I remember the first time I visited and was intimidated by players on the forum who eventually became friends and teammates. I've thought about creating something to take its place, but I'm limited in my web knowledge and not sure what would be useful for us as a community, especially given our small size.

What do PVPers think we'd benefit from? Any ideas? Someone suggested a Wiki.

A Wiki wouldn't help. Look at something like Arena Junkies, for WoW. The biggest thing is getting the more skilled PVPers involved to write guides, strategies, etc.

I'm the only person in the world to have never played WoW, but I took a look around the website and I see what you mean.

I know we definitely have the knowledge to be writing guides, etc, but I've heard various reasons why more experienced players don't want to. This would be entirely out of my control whether or not anyone contributes the necessary content, which is an aspect of it that I don't like.

We could definitely use a macro section and I know that macros as well as very short guides (like a collection of tips) have been posted already. I don't think there's anything to compare to talents or other WoW content outside of gear choices and upgrade priorities. I think for gear "beginner's" sets of easy to obtain gear and more advanced sets that will require some farming might be useful.

For guides, I'd start by taking a page from PvE. FFXIV doesn't have an Icy Veins or equivalent polished guide hub for PvE, just a bunch of haphazard guides strewn across the OForums, the Subreddit, various Google Drive files and semi-satirical Imgur flowcharts.

But that all still gets collated into periodic collections of helpful links and guides, which seems to be good enough to spread the general information and let dedicated players learn the ideas and spread the knowledge further when players ask about it.

So rather than shooting way high-concept (which might burn you if the effort doesn't pay off), just start by creating guides somewhere (Forums, Reddit, Google, Imgur Flowchart images, etc) and posting them for review, critique, and distribution. Or even just collating helpful guides together in one spot (that sort of thing has been a huge help for me in my time learning PvE).

To be honest, the best guide right now might be "How to make your queue pop". Not even sarcasm — tips like:
    • Not checking minority languages
    • Active times of day for NA
    • Drawing attention to community 'queue days'
    • Warnings about what content is deader than dead and will never pop
    • Explanations of what Jobs / Roles have faster queues (or don't matter, as in Frontlines)
    • Info, per datacenter, on which GCs are currently overfull and experiencing long queues vs. which GCs have fast pops (which might have the knock-on effect of gradually evening out the distribution a little)

etc... The biggest obstacle to entering PvP for me was (and remains) just getting in to the content at all.

We will have to learn how to contribute to each other's work, without straight up bashing it even if it's wrong.

Something as simple as "Hey this macro helped me with X"

Instantly gets a "All macros are bad and will make you bad"

Which leaves everyone feeling like they have to play to an expert level right off the bat. And all the cool lil things that players find out about the game is better to be kept to themselves, because higher level players find it hard to give their opinion without making another look/feel like a total idiot.

I may always be this "White knight" guy but learn to talk to each other as friends here even if you have different opinions. And you should Nash the people who proceed to pump their chest out with the "I'm the better player comments listen to me this guy is not even silver"

Another place would be cool but it be no different than this place with the current player base. No offence to anyone... I COME IN PEACE. /whiteflag

Jazz, you have the right attitude. I remember I think it was Ivy Knoll made a PvP guide for Paladin that had some good ideas in it, and she posted it to Reddit and people started bashing some of her choices like crazy rather than offering suggestions and praising the work she put into it.

Everyone starts off at the bottom, and even more experienced people always learn new stuff.

I think what I'd include would be a fairly straightforward directory of:
    • PVP basics and terminology
    • Guides
    • Macros
    • Streams
    • Linkshells and FCs
    • Websites

I wouldn't be making all of this myself, and would be accepting contributions or links out whenever possible. Which brings me to the next point...

Etro, you have good points when it comes to behavior and I was already thinking if there was any way to counteract that. The way I see it, there are a few ways to deal with the inevitable problems:

    1) Free-for-all. Let people air their baggage about playstyle, strategy, hackers, win-trading, etc.
    2) Moderate excessive drama and risk becoming a target myself.
    3) Disallow commenting altogether, and perhaps use a simple system of being able to add a + for appreciated content.

    Also,

To be honest, the best guide right now might be "How to make your queue pop". Not even sarcasm — tips like:

    Not checking minority languages

Info, per datacenter, on which GCs are currently overfull and experiencing long queues vs. which GCs have fast pops (which might have the knock-on effect of gradually evening out the distribution a little)
This is possibly something to include.
