Also consider your casting times. Several of the important BLM spells have casting times longer then the global cooldown, whereas most(all?) DRG skills "cast" instantly as far as i know. Over the course of a fight the dragoon will score more hits off skills(i havent crunched the numbers, but roughly in my head i come up with about 1 or 2 extra per 30 seconds of fight time), and thats on top of the extra hits they get from auto attacks. So even if the individual hits are smaller, 2-4 extra skills per minute plus approx 20 auto attacks can easily put the overall damage numbers into a whole new perspective. This is why when people compare classes they typically use a time based metric(average damage per second being the most common) rather then one based on the hardest individual hits.
