Quick retainer question.

When a retainer is given a unique item only allowed one in inventory, then places that item up for sale. Can they be given another unique item before the sale completes or does the for sale items still count as part of their inventory?

Pretty sure it counts as being in their inventory. I think I've tried and failed to have one up for sale and one in inventory at the same time.
