Gil Sink Suggestion with Materia - just throwing it out there

An expensive item you can buy from the vendor that increases the probability of forbidden materia for one use or until a duration passes if unused.

The gillionaires have something to spend their money on for better odds at the forbidden materia game... will probably want to price it accordingly if they try to sell it, and aw heck this isn't gonna work unless they fail a lot. And if they do it's not much of an investment anyway.

Unless: meld materia for others is implemented. Then have the use of this expensive item to mark the item as Untradeable. Rich get something for themselves, but can't get anymore rich off of it.

I'm debating with myself in a public forum, tis' embarrassing. I just wanted to throw it out there and see if it might be refined more, might be of interest, may not be of interest, scrapped, shoved in a moogle pit, etc.

edit1: Or for the gil sink, something that you buy from an NPC to even perform forbidden materia melding.

forbidden materia is a gil sink for the extremely rich already. your idea is not so much a gil sink as a desperate plea to increase the chance of getting more materia on to your gear. and also enough ppl are up in arms already about raid gear being pushed out by materia. this idea would only add more fuel to this fire

The way I look at it now (thanks to a certain archer ~ carpenter), materia breaking is not a gil sink, but an item sink.

Gil still circulates in the economy. Person A buys two materia from person B for 4 million gil. Person A takes materia, it breaks, person A no longer has item, materia, or gil. Person B still has 4 million gil (minus some minor taxes). The 4 million gil still exists, it hasn't gone anywhere. Repeat process many times, the items (materials to craft, crafted item, catalysts, materia) disappear, time lost, gil stays.

But as I says, just throwing it out there since a discussion came up about how to drain the gil out of the economy, since item sinks seem to already be in place. Just a thought.

ok i can see this point. but if you want a gil sink that you need to buy something off the NPC, it would have to be something you need to buy to make forbidden materia in the first place, not something that increases your chances of success. i stand by my point that it would cause the biggest rukus if you increase chances of forbidden materia

Ahah! Yes, I think that would work better. i.e. something you NPC buy to even try to do forbidden materia each time.

The process of multi-melding is still involves mostly player-to-player transactions. Gil does not leave the economy, it just changes hands. Since this does not actually eliminate any gil from the game, it is not a gil sink.

Item Breaking IS a gil sink. You lose the Item, you can't NPC it for gil. Materials collected are also made into Items which then break, not selling to NPC for gil. Sure it doesn't take out existing gil, but it does prevent non-existing gil flooding the economy.
