Game Freezes when logging/teleporting using DX11

It's been months since I switched back to DX9 because of this problem. I have tried every graphic setting possible, reinstalled the game, checked that no overlay programs are on while playing plus having my graphic card drivers up to date, nothing worked. Usually screen starts loading until it suddenly stops. If I click or something I get the usual "FF XIV is not responding " but if I let it be for like 5 minutes I get a 90001 connection error. I have no problems running this game on DX9 which really bugs me.

    My PC specs are:
    Windows 10 Pro 64 bits
    ASUS M5A 78L-M LX3
    AMD FX-8370E Eight-Core Processor
    8GB RAM
    RADEON R7850 TWIN FROZR 2GD5/OC

Any chance you have the DX9 files running as administrator and not the DX11? In the FFXIV folder there will be two client .exe's for them. Also, do you have the Windows 10 power settings set to "High Performance?" It may be a longshot, but it sounds like your network card or hard drive might be putting themselves to sleep because they're not detecting activity. There's also a setting under your network driver to stop it from going to sleep to conserve power (which on a desktop isn't necessary). Googling that might help.

If that doesn't work then I'm stumped. I know a couple of newer AMD cards had hanging issues under DX11, but to my knowledge the 7850 wasn't part of that. It was mostly around the 285/380. Even still, running the newest drivers would fix that issue because they've had it all patched up since 16.3.2.

Thanks for the response! I searched the FFXIV folder and found the .exe's you were talking about and both were not running as administrator so I turned it on, no changes. Energy is set to "High Performance" and I checked that the network driver doesn't turn off too but still nothing.

I have the game installed through steam, could it be the reason for this to happen? Now I mostly avoid logging through steam since I read overlay programs could cause problems with the game so I use ffxivboot.exe (running as admin too) but that didn't change anything either in the last few months. I'm at a total loss since it's the only game I've had problems with.

Khuja, I know my post isn't massively helpful but just wanted to say thank you.

I've been going crazy due to this recently. I've been playing for 6 months perfectly fine and then suddenly 3 weeks ago the same stuff started happening with me with exactly the same experiences.

I have reinstalled the game 3 times, checked for ram problems and checked for memory leaks and nothing helped.

I've been really worried it's my computer but switched off direct x 11 and it's working fine now.

Honestly not sure why this is happening suddenly but it's exactly the same problem.

It gets stuck in loading or zoning. It loads to a point and then suddenly stops and if I just leave it alone occasionally it will load or occasionally it will time out. Any guidance anyone could give on fixing this would be so appreciated.

Hey Atieno! Good thing I'm not alone in this but yeah that's exactly the same issue I've been having and is really annoying. BTW since Dracian post I've tried some settings and the last one was balance energy plan and it got a little better, I have to test it a little further since it usually gets worse when the place I'm porting to is crowded (usually Idyllshire or Foundation and even Limsa) and I tried this in the early morning, will let you know if that fixed it!

Just out of curiosity, what types of hard drives (or SSDs) are you guys using?

I've been testing but it started with the issue again so that was no solution. My HDD is WDC WD1002FBYS -18A6B0 ATA

I also have freezing issues and I am only able to play reliably with DX9. In this other thread, OP worked around the problem by changing sound card settings.

That's worth looking into was well. The problem with these types of issues is that there are several things in-game going on that hit several parts of the system. Any of these interactions could cause the issue, so it's hard to nail down.

I've also been getting CTD when teleporting since this recent hotfix.
