They only ever talk about Carbuncle glamour implying you probably aren't getting any new summons. They use Lore content in quests as an excuse for why you can't get anymore and the way abilities were padded out with none of them having anything to do with your egi's it's pretty clear they are moving away from the Pet Class portion of the Job and mostly focusing on the caster.

Yeah it's called Summoner, but you are really just playing a beefed up Arcanist. And in turn just have a poor man's Necromancer with a bunch of DoT's and AoE Burst.

Only relatable thing the SMN has much like Summon attacks of past games is large amounts of AoE damage.

A summoning class should revolve around the Pet. Not the Summoner. But I don't think that will change at this point.
