My Thoughts on The Weeping City of Mhach (Possible Spoilers)

    1/6
Alright, before I get into this, I'm going to make a little disclaimer. I've been up since yesterday, playing the literal hell out of this patch's content, so I'm a /little/ exhausted, so please excuse any errors I make in this post.

Also sorry for the multiple posts, forums only support 1000 characters per post.

I've also completed Weeping City. Did it on my first queue, MT'd it with an ilevel of 216.

(Please don't post yet, more to come)

Anyways, now that that's out of the way. Onto the Weeping City.

So, first thing I'd like to address in this post is the difficulty, and no, I don't think it's too hard. In fact, I think it's perfect, and here's why.
The past raid has become a faceroll, let's be honest, I've queued for Void Ark as a class and just stacked fending gear on my dps or whatever, and I never had issues. I could queue in and literally not care at all about the raid, and guess what, we'd be absolutely fine. That's a big issue with content. Before 3.3 everything was easy, really, really easy. You know what happens when things get easy? Players stop trying, they get bored, they grow soft. That's why people are having such issues with Weeping City. There's this mentality now, where if you don't one shot it, you should disband. Gone are the, "We can do it, let's try again", mentalities, and instead they've been replaced with, "Oh this is too hard, I'm not going to try, let's disband".

(Slight Spoilers in the next paragraph)

If we nerf this patch's content, we'll be setting a record saying, "Hey SE, we don't like being challenged!" Guys, how is that fun? For those of you who have yet to complete Weeping City. Let me tell you something. That feeling you get when you finally kill that last boss, or hell, when you kill Ozma, that's dopamine, that's called satisfaction, and that's what we should feel after every raid. It should be a celebration to down a boss, or to get that awesome loot you've been trying to get for a week. Because that feeling is a whole lot better then being bored and pressing three buttons while giving minimal effort.

(Mechanic Spoilers in this next paragraph)

Now, next thing to discuss are the mechanics, for example, Ozma's square and triangle forms. Not to sound like some braggart, but I picked up on that stuff during our first fight with him. I mouse over all debuffs and buffs I've never seen and read them, it takes two seconds. "Oh, don't move or I explode? Got it!" Or, you see Ozma turn to a triangle and then shoot those status debuff lasers in the long parts of the bridges each time he turns to the triangle. "Huh, a telegraphed attack, let's move out of the way next time we fight him." Same thing for the square form. You see him use the cleave that gives vuln on anyone not hugging him. Then he does it again the next time. You change your strategy after noticing these things and win. This is how people complete Savage.

By beating Weeping City, you're proving to everyone that you're in fact getting better. You're learning to use deductive reasoning, you're figuring it out, and in the end, guess who beat that boss? Not your gear, but you! You used your brain, you figured out the mechanics, and you are the reason that awesome piece of loot spawned.

Is that not how things should be? Shouldn't we be striving to get better and to have challenging and engaging content instead of dull, easy fights?

So, anyways, to conclude, gonna make a TL;DR for anyone who doesn't like reading long posts.

TL;DR: By wiping on Weeping City, and doing it until you learn the fight and then succeed, you're bettering yourself and everyone in your group, and then that carries over to every fight you do after. We should be happy to challenge ourselves, and to play engaging content instead of asking for nerfs.

    And as a final note.

Thank you FFXIV Dev Team for delivering a patch which has renewed my love for this game. Please, don't make this new stuff as easy as Void Ark, because it's possible, and it's definitely rewarding and fun.

Yea Void Ark was way too easy, love the new raid. The mechanics were actually interesting and you can't just strongarm through mechanics and make healers pick up all your slack.

Couldn't agree more. To be fair there was an awful lot of salt from myself yesterday with this, but I couldn't be happier with this content. Challenging, beautiful and interesting.

It was pretty fun, I don't ever tank the 24 man raids even though my main is tank, so i was healing it, and wow, I've never had to try that hard to heal, we were all screaming on TS and I ended up saving the run on the last boss with a healer LB 3, pretty nutso. Also you can circumvent the 1000 character limit by editing your post, so just right something up in word and make a holding post, then edit it and copy paste the text from word.

What sucks is, I don't really seem to get that feeling. Whenever I've had trouble with a fight in this game, whether it's Titan EX, t5, t9, t13, or some other examples I can't think of, I never got that "OMG YESSSSS" reaction that you often hear in videos and streams with voice chat when the group finally clears some Savage boss or something. Instead it's more like "thank *god* that shit's over, can I please never come back?"

If there's people like me out there (I imagine I can't be the only one like this), the whole "dopamine" thing isn't really a factor to encourage us :<

Not necessarily, because what it takes to win involves everyone else pulling their weight. You can be as awesome as you want and it will not amount to anything if your party is not up to snuff.
