Can't access new classes..?

I been wanting to try out the new classes that came with the expansion for awhile. I stopped playing years ago and brought the game and resubbed. I can't find out how start the new classes..My friend says I have to do all the story quest to get it...I just can't believe that FF14 would force you to do the story quest before accessing content..If this is real is there a way to skip it I don't really want to spend 30+ hours doing something I won't care about just to get my money's worth.

EVERYTHING in FFXIV is gated behind story line. I hate it too, trust me. You don't wanna hear what I let out of my mouth when I bought expansion and then realized I can't access it until I finish million quests from original game. So yeah, EVERYTHING is gated behind story line. This is main reason why I'll never update my account to full and why I will never have any alt character. I am not going through that martyrdom ever again.
