Level 50+ questions

I just wrapped up the Ultima Weapon fight, and I'm a little confused about some things and hoping you guys can help.

I believe this wraps up 1.0 and 2.0 now begins if I am not mistaken? I want to make sure I'm reading the right patch notes even if now outdated. This is still ARR content and not HW?

I believe there is a relic weapon quest I can start (npc in vesper bay) but I think no one does this anymore? With the new patch and updated icons, nearly every lv 50 quest giver has a '+'.

I basically want to beeline the msq to 3.0 and avoid side quests, but I still want to unlock things like HM primals and my relic weapon.

There is quite a reasonable amount more after Ultima and before HW, it contains a new main story line before HW called the 'Astral Era' and also the lead up to entering HW and why you go there etc. That story is a very good story line and I think you will enjoy it. MSQ is continued all the way through to HW and beyond so you won't need to avoid side quests per se because you would actually have to go out of your way to do those in the first place. You can just continue MSQ like normal, side quests and relic are all optional anyways and same with raid unlocks (Coil and Crystal Tower)...do them whenever you want whether at 50 or at 60 it's up to you.

If want to keep check on which stage of MSQ your on and what one is next, you can also use SE's own database which lists all the MSQ. I am not sure which one your up to but can use these to help figure out which ones are next. The Ultimate Weapon quest is the prequel to all of these ones listed below and that one is part of this MSQ list (http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...=5&category3=1). Everything up to and including the Ultima (Ultimate Weapon) quest is part of the 'Umbral Era' main quest line, after it comes the 'Astral Era' main quest line then 'Heavensward' quest line then 'Dragonsong War' quest line. The Relic and raids like Crystal Tower, Coils and level 50 EX mode trials etc are all side quests though and not part of the MSQ so just do those whenever you want.

Ok, that makes sense. Minfillia gave two quests, one MSQ related and the other lead to an investigation of a 'dark rider' roaming about the black shroud. I already know who that is The last question I did I talked to the old man in the church in Thanalan.

I'm not in a rush to get to HW, UNLESS I need to access it to gain my 52+ abilities. I really much rather take my time with it while I get my DoL/DoH leveled. Are the 52+ abilities still gained in ARR locations?

If mean like DoH/DoL level job skills at 52+ etc then yes you need to go Ishgard first, you learn them there. Each DoH/DoL job ARR NPC has a lvl 50 new quest which tells you to go to Ishgard which is where you continue from there rather than going back to ARR NPC's to learn new job skills etc. I think the same applies to DoW/DoM. With Dark Knight and Machinst the basic job NPC's are in Ishgard anyways but all the new trainers for even ARR jobs like Bard as an example after 50+ are in HW zones not ARR ones. The database I linked before will be able to tell you since it also list job/class quest lines for each DoW/DoM, DoH and DoL.

@SnuggleButt, No interest in unlocking the additional jobs, but I do know I need ishgard to do it. Looking at the quests for sch and whm, some take place in ARR zones, and others in HW zones. I just hit 52 so I haven't sought out the npcs. Both sch and whm lv 52 quests are in ARR zones. Now my brain hurts lol

If you want to do the level 50 relic quests, they start with "The Weaponsmith of Legend" which you pick up from Nedrick Ironheart at Vesper Bay. It then leads to "A Relic Reborn" (which is repeatable for each ARR job, and is where any subsequent relic questlines start if you want relics for multiple jobs. This is the one where you actually get your first-stage relic weapon.)

Getting the initial level 50 relics as cool glamour weapons and for the job-specific titles is still fairly popular, but only a few diehard completionists (like me) are still trying to advance them through all their upgrade steps. There is a separate relic questline for the level 60 relics that does not rely on getting the level 50 ones, so more players just wait 'til they get to 60 and start there.

You now about 200 MSQ's from Heavensward. It's a grind, but you'll get to Ishgard at level 52 and you'll enjoy the story all the way through. (gets really intense)

I'm already level 52 :/

The good news is every single quest gives crud exp (thank God!). 4800 to be precise from the first to the last. That's 960000 exp. I won't even gain one level from them

The bad news is I can't do much else if wanting to avoid leveling further. Yes, I know I'm a weirdo for not wanting to level haha!
