Lol, had the same problem. Right now, I'm trying to decide between Tales from the Borderlands and The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief.

I had the same issue. I don't really like preordering because of how many games have had issues at launch lately, and not really much else interested me enough or was discounted enough. However, I caved and preordered Battlefield 1. I figure I like the series and I'll have a chance to try the beta and see if it has enough issues to justify canceling. 20% preorder discount with prime doesn't hurt either. I also ordered Doom (same day shipping ) from my sister's account so that I could get a second code for my fiance. Was nice to see the 33% discount on it.

I ended up pre-ordering Detroit: Become Human because I've been interested in that game for years now when it was first shown off with that tech demo. Is it actually confirmed that Pre-Orders work for this promotion? Because if not I will buy Dark Souls 2 for PS4 since it's $19.99 right now.

I preordered pokemon: sun then I talk to a rep who tells me I won't get the code until the game ships in november...a friend does the same thing and she gets told that she will get her code within 2 days. this is why I have trust issues.

I preordered something since there isn't really something I want physical that qualifies. If the code doesn't arrive in 2 days, I'll just cancel it and buy a physical product. The promotion lasts a while anyways.

Went ahead and bought a new controller for just under $50 (Not including shipping). While it showed the special FFXIV offer, I didn't see any indication that it was included in my order summary. Is this something I should be worried about?

Nope, it won't show anything about the special offer in your order summary. You will get the code within 2 days after placing the order.

Just be sure to order as soon as you cancel because people have told me that apparently Amazon or SE have run out of codes before.
