    Thoughts on personalized loot?

I've been thinking, running Mhach almost 10 times this week for a drop (glamour I know but still it's a drop) for the tank chest and the loot table is a mess. I know it's been like this for awhile but as it stands people still get their loot and ditch, then we replace or we fight the boss, and random items drop that no one needs thus cluttering the loot table.

Now other MMOs have a "personalized loot table" where it is based off your class, now FF14 could really benefit this because:

-The loot tables are too chaotic i've seen double Brd pants and double Nin pants drop from the 3rd and 4th boss twice in a row.

-A lot of the loot is wasted meaning it goes to pass/discarded

-We have MANY classes/jobs in the game it'd really benefit based on: say you're a tank but you want to join for a chance at healer gear so you can select your specialization

-Increased people queing as it'd eliminate people queing for a DPS which takes 5 mins or so, compared to a tank whose ques are 30 mins+

I know there are some cons with the problem of someone could get their loot and still scoot it's an issue that won't ever be solved. But it would be great as personalized loot can give players a more "controlled" way of eliminating some RNG aspects (I use controlled very loosely).

Anyways I was wondering your guys' thoughts on this negative or positive, personally i'd love to have a better loot system in this game it's not horrible but it can be improved.

It certainly has its pros, but then you look at things like the raids with loot lockouts. Oh look I got a belt off the first boss for the 8th week in a row... so glad I have more storm seals.

Only if we can designate what class we want loot for.

Is the idea to change what we can "need roll" from our current role to an alt role? Like Queuing as a tank but having my need set for healer gear instead?

Basically for example, WoW's is set up if you play a DPS (paladin) you can change your loot specifications to tanking (protection) paladin meaning you'd get tanking gear for being a DPS that you yourself could only loot/roll on, so say you que as a tank you could set your loot specialization to healer or DPS the loot would pop up for your specialization and you take it.

Sadly though there's raid/loot lockouts so that's a big drawback it wouldn't be perfect or even close but it'd eliminate RNG and encouraging people to que up as multiple roles but designate the loot they want.

It's just called having a true token system rather than the current grind infused alternative we got because SE needs to extend their content life-span.

The drop would just be a generic chest item that you would trade in for a specific chest piece. 1 token 1 item. Not 4-10 tokens for 1 item.

Hey, we actually had this in dungeons for 2.4, and it worked surprisingly well! I think we have enough content now that it wouldn't matter if we had a token system on the latest 24-man raid, especially since the lore upgrades now require both void ark AND weeping city drops.

With a system like that it may narrow down your potential loot pool, but you can and will still wind up getting useless duplicates like what already happens now. It happened in WoW all the time even with their "smart" personal loot system.

Personal loot is also a one and done system in things with lockouts with the way WoW does it for stuff like LFR. Basically, you would run each weekly boss per difficulty once, you might get nothing or junk/gold and that was it. I think it would hurt queue times since WoW has way more bosses and difficulties than XIV unless you did it on Tuesday. WoW has bonus rolls as a retry but even those are not guarantees and are limited.

It's more alt character friendly though, but you couldn't choose what you wanted like you can with the system in XIV now. (Except in the current XIV system, you might end up having to run something x number of times and might not get something.) Perhaps they can modify the WoW system if they implemented it, but a one and done system where we only have 4 bosses wouldn't work too well. There are pros and cons to both systems.

You know theres a lot of QOL changes in this game I would like and I really dislike not having something drop for weeks on end. But this isnt a system I would suppor, for one "Oh look a belt for the 8th time in a row" and also because it removes the feeling of wonder out of the loot and adds a cheap korean/f2p mmo feel to it.

Because 4 weeks later, on T9, when your piece of loot finally does drop its like theres MY loot. Its a lot more rewarding. Maybe Im just old school.

I much prefer token systems or standard drop systems.
