Alan can mean Allag. The N on the end stands for an association with death. Ala means "all/always", which is why it doesn't include an "H" or an "N"; it brings both kinds under the umbrella. Alamorn, all one word, is meant to mean "Extinction" (death of all / death forever).

Now, most dragonspeak words have some basis in some real-world interlingual root. Akh relates to arc (curve), Morn relates to mort (death). Ala likely relates to "all" and by extension of the conciseness of dragonspeak brings "always" under the umbrella.

Ala Morn (with the space), then, likely just modifies the pre-existing Akh Morn, which is Circle of Death (an AOE). This spear-thrusting tankbuster is meant to one-shot an undergeared and unprepared tank, thus reflecting the change from Akh (circle) to Ala (all).

Though, the right way to translate it can be tricky. For example, I had assumed that Hess Afah (the top of Sohm Al) meant "To See Forever", because it was the highest point in all of Eorzea. However, it really means "The Watch Eternal", as that's where - for all time - the guardian of Sohm Al kept watch for those who would defile the sacred mount.

So... Complete Death? Kills Anything? Permanent Death? This is the part I'm bad at, lol.

    EDIT
It stands for "All of your HP and now you are dead". Adjusted for the conciseness of dragons, the proper translation is HP0. [/sarcasm]
