Is CNJ a viable DPS?

As thread title states. Are we viable DPS? Or still outclassed by THMs? Is it worth even attempting to through ancient magic? Or just trying to stack on DoTs?

hard to call right now, since they are saying they are going to adjust and shuffle abilities in the next update, its hard to say.

personaly i feel if you stack int or att mag., or both via gear and materia they can be.

From what I've seen just messing around, soloing, duoing with THM friend, spiritbonding parties etc. Yeah, CNJ can still DPS decently. Usually I cast the ELM DOT spell that matches my wand and then the Elemental Tier 2 nuke that matches and/or chainspell+AM that matches (as timer allows). If I can cast more, I alt on a complementary ELM DOT/Tier 2 etc. Until mob is dead. Works pretty well and damage is on par with THM. (This of course is my CNJ spell only setup)

Some argue THM's Shadowsear is best Damage spell currently ...and it is BUT it has a long timer...AM's and Tier 2 Elm spells can out damage it when you consider damage over time. But even still, just because Shadowsear wins doesn't mean CNJ can't DPS decently. ...at least at the current moment.

Keep in mind, just for fun I soloed Phaia as CNJ....I had to sleep it and rest once to regen MP...but I did it. So yeah, CNJ can still damage deal just fine.

Also, other than in some very specific instances, CNJ is still the Healer when it comes to Events/Harder group content etc. I wouldn't suggest going into Ifrit for instance as a DPSer.

Alright, thank you for the feedback. It seems with the recent announcement as CNJ and WHM we're going to become more of a healing role in 1.20. I'm in a bit of a gear limbo as to what to get materia wise considering I would really love to nuke, but don't want to waste the precious little gil I have if CNJ nukes are going to be non-existent to poor in the next patch.

If Gil is tight, my suggestion is set you main CNJ gear setup to be a healer....then go after the rare/ex gears to supplement/create a nuker set. That way, you don't waste too much gil. That being said, we don't know what will actually happen to CNJ as a class once 1.21 comes out. Nor do we know what spells/abilities they will get to keep. I mean yes, CNJ unlocks WHM...but once we have WHM that will become the 'healer' role, not CNJ. So maybe CNJ's DD spells will do a bit more in upcoming patches (if we get to keep them) But because so many questions have yet to be answered on the spell set for CNJ/THM and then CNJ/WHM THM/BLM I'd play it safe and only worry about healer setup currently....worry about the rest when we know more.

Personally, I'm still hoping that CNJ retains some decent DD power...otherwise CNJ is just 'WHM lite' ....and that's lame.
