I think you don't realize that seemingly innocent stat differences can be tweaked and stacked together into large differences by those who have the resources to do so, namely the elites with greater access to equipment and materia. Add in future job changes, and you will have such a huge potential difference in stats that could negatively impact the game. That would not be healthy for a community that the developers want desperately to grow.
Are you taking the 5-10% from base stats or from stats after the fact? If people want to exclude me because I have 7 less str than a Roe (even less if we assume the difference from Lalafell and Roe would be the most dynamic of the relationships) go for it. I fine with avoiding elitists who crunch numbers. Its not the only way to get things completed in a game. Being an elitist won't make your base stats higher by the way.
