the main weapon stats between 235/240/245 is only like 1 or 2.
so it's not gonna make a massive difference to your performance.
cos this was the patch where the upgrade items became mainstream so that might be why

How is getting 500 esos or clearing an extreme primal a crazy grind?
Your alts don't need anything better than a 210 weapon. Especially if you're not even doing extreme primals to get weapons better than that.

If your not raiding, or doing EX Primals , why on earth do you need the best weapon available. And if your not going to raid for the best weapon there is an alternative. Yes relic is a grind, but it is a weapon you earn.
Do you seriously want them to slap the best weapon in the vendor and call it a day. If so I vote a big NO.
Back in my day we didn't need no stinkin' weapons. We beat people up with our bare fists!!

I mentioned to someone while clearing Sephirot normal for the first time that the only reason I was even there was because square didn't give us a tome weapons that doesn't require raiding and they said that the something of the dead (whatever that new dungeon content due out presumably in 3.35 is called) is going to give 230 weapons. Finger crossed. I mostly do dungeons and raids like Void Ark etc since I don't have a static or the time to dedicate to meet at a set time every week to join one. While I was only a bit confused by the design choice at first, the longer they go without giving people a midcore option for weapons, the more odd it seems.

Problem I see with that is that SE did mention that the palace of the dead gear is only for that dungeon/instance. Therefore I assume that you won't be able to use the weapons somewhere else, or they do it like they've done it in the past with the pvp weapons. Slap some stats on it that are great but barely usable in other content, unless they let us meld/overmeld them.I mentioned to someone while clearing Sephirot normal for the first time that the only reason I was even there was because square didn't give us a tome weapons that doesn't require raiding and they said that the something of the dead (whatever that new dungeon content due out presumably in 3.35 is called) is going to give 230 weapons.
The 2x series was the same thing. If you wanted a great weapon to that time, you needed to clear T5, 9 & 13 or the relic grind which took a long time (pre-nerfs) or you could do the weekly primal quest and get a weapon that was only BiS for brd's to that time, after completing all 3 xtreme primals. Later on they added a couple of weapons that were craft able but to that time already outdated since raid, weeklies, relic and even tomes were so much better.
I do understand that some people are not willing to raid or have the time to raid, but that also means that you do not need a ilvl 245 weapon. Any other weapon is easily obtained it just takes a little bit of effort/time.

pretty sure yoshi said you can use palace of the dead weapons elsewhere lol
I wouldn't really call midas normal "raiding." Get the 7 gears, save up the tomes and get a i230 weapon. If you have midas unlocked, would just have to clear 1-3 once, then just do 4 every week to get one win until you collect them all. It will probably upgrade to 240 eventually.I mentioned to someone while clearing Sephirot normal for the first time that the only reason I was even there was because square didn't give us a tome weapons that doesn't require raiding and they said that the something of the dead (whatever that new dungeon content due out presumably in 3.35 is called) is going to give 230 weapons. Spawnie has the right of it. Initially the Palace of the Dead weapon is only usable within the instance, but once you clear the whole thing you'll be able to use it anywhere. Just like FFXI's original relics that were all but useless outside of Dynamis until you fully upgraded them.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
I do believe that EX trials are a million times easier and less time consuming than getting your relic done. I would've put time into getting a Sephirot bow if I wasn't already trying to do that push for completing "Coming into it's Own." I could probably have all of the Sephirot weapons if I put in the time, but I genuinely want the relic. Also, in regards to the OP's worries, the reasoning behind putting the weapon behind more difficult walls is because they don't want encounters like Sephirot EX to be outdated. Even though Nidhogg EX is out, it doesn't mean you can complete it without having at least a 230 weapon. Also keep in mind that you can do A8 for it's weekly item and get a 230 weapon in 7 weeks.
