    [Question] Regarding punishment philosophy

    Good evening,

I'm posting this feedback in response to a ticket I had to file. In said ticket I reported a player in my team during a trial because he insulted our White Mage. As reply I got that the offended player would have to file a report themself.

I still pressed as to why. The answer I received stated, that while such an attitude of the reported player in question is not allowed under any circumstance, every player had their own threshold of being offended.

The reported player in question did still break the rules. I do not understand how being offended does make a difference, when said rules are still rules to go by. Just because a player doesn't understand an insult (as for example when a player insults you in their native language) or doesn't bother to file a report that absolves them of the harassment? I don't quite get why a player should be absolved of their offense simply because an offended party does not understand an insult.

Don't try to be the police. It's not your place to get into someone else's issues.

When someone is being negative during a trial it doesn't affect just one person, but all of the party. Especially when the insults start. And if someone in my party is suffering because of another simply not keeping to the rules then the whole party suffers from it, thus making it the business of everyone in the party, not just the offender and offended. And while you might now get with the argument "just remove the toxic player from the group", this is not possible in the middle of the fight and still doesn't clear the fact that the person in question still broke the rules. Not seeing anything done simply because it was not the offended player who filed the report is simply being inconsistent in enforcing the rules, thus leaving such toxicity to spread further.

If a player is insulting a third party then SE requires the third party to make the complaint UNLESS it's racist, homophobic or other hate speech. However, if the insult has the effect of affecting you, for example the player uses the term r**ard towards the third party & *you* take offence as you have a sibling with mental health issues, then they will take action if you explain it was offensive to you & was being used in a channel you could read (in other words, it wasn't private tells or FC Chat of a different FC).

I have had to make a report against a user for calling a third party racist & homophobic names in Alliance Chat during a raid & SE did act on it. The reason being that I explained how it affected me also, despite not being the directly intended recipient & I always include a full copy of the offending chat.

@Drkdays: I would like to think so, but I was literally told that "we cannot take calls on behalf of others". That, and that I was advised to come and post here if I disagree with that policy, so that my feedback might be taken into consideration, if seen as useful.

@Culfinrandir: Thanks for the suggestion. While I did include the chat log, the part of how it affects others is a nice addition. In this case it would've even fit.
