The 5% is based on level, not gear. The question is, will BiS gear give you the stats needed to clear nodes using less GP? It seems people still need to spend the 100 GP to guarantee the legendary nodes. Will this gear bring us to the 5% or less miss rate?
Aside from that, new nodes in 3.5/3.4 or whenever they add them might dictate the need.
Ever notice that some items are capped at 95%-99%? Not just 95%? It's cus those are probably level 57/58/59 items.

I don't believe that any gear allows 100% on legendary nodes due to hard caps. I think it's designed so that even if you have twice the required stats you will still not get 100% until the next level up, which will be with 4.0 I imagine. The 2.x ones were at 95% even ifif highly overgeared until 3.0 arrived. The question is, will BiS gear give you the stats needed to clear nodes using less GP? The point he's making is that right now, even with BiS i170 melded gear, you can't hit that 95% cap on legendary nodes and are forced to use the 100GP +15% ability instead of the 50GP 5% ability to ensure 100% gathering rate. With this new i190/200 gear comes a HUGE boost to gathering though, and I am pretty sure we can hit 95% now. Even without a new body or main/offhand, I'm sitting at 90% right now.

Definitely. I have 95% at legendary nodes. Granted I've overmelded some Vs and went for absolute bis wherever I could, but I didn't even started melding tools and I'm already at 95/15, so I can use 50gp for 100% and 100gp for unearthThe point he's making is that right now, even with BiS i170 melded gear, you can't hit that 95% cap on legendary nodes and are forced to use the 100GP +15% ability instead of the 50GP 5% ability to ensure 100% gathering rate. ...So? This is almost always a issue with gathering as new nodes are released that put us in that 70%-95%. I have no doubt the i190 gear will push us to 95% but that doesn't really matter anymore. what will matter in 3.4 is having that 700 GP so u have room to use that 15% rate ability to actually get the new items. The point he's making is that right now, even with BiS i170 melded gear, you can't hit that 95% cap on legendary nodes and are forced to use the 100GP +15% ability instead of the 50GP 5% ability to ensure 100% gathering rate. I imagin the nodes we get in 3.4 will put us at 85% with the current gear level.

We will probably need _some_ of the new gear for 3.4 nodes and definitely not everything. I have mostly all of the white gear overmelded and can gather as well as people with full red scrip gear....So? My question was simply 'How big of a benefit would making a full Ironworks set help?'. If I have full BiS and still need to use the same actions as someone with a lower tier set of gear, then aside from visuals it seems like a waste. However if we make BiS and I can gather an extra 5 items per node at a higher HQ chance it would be worth it.

Have not looked to see just which nodes this applies to, but the new gear will allow you to make use of new conditionals, such as +1 Gathering Attempts or +2 Gathering Attempts, that were not on the nodes prior to 3.3. The old i180/i170 gear set does not provide you with enough stats to make use of these new conditionals except for when they appear on the Chysahl/Adamantite Ore nodes. My question was simply how much will going full out help. Of course it still matters. People are still gathering legendary node mats at quite a substantial rate last I checked, so having that 95% base chance helps. It's a long way to 3.4 yet.
Also, I use the 15% ability already with 680 GP to get a 45% HQ chance for 5 hits and a 100% HQ final hit on legendary nodes. The ticks as you gather at the node give you 20 GP back to effectively have 700 GP to use for the final push for 100% HQ, so 700 base GP isn't actually needed at all and won't change anything I do.
