I used to play FFXIV when I first got it nearly 10 hours a day and when I booted up another game I'd close it and just do nothing in XIV :/
I'm pretty happy though that XIV can cater to casuals and hardcore players so I don't feel like I'm missing out really

I love playing with my family, boyfriend and friends. I really play because it's a really beautiful game, good story and my boyfriend and I love challenging each other. I always want to be better at what I do and playing with friends that has the same interest is awesome.

I also love just relaxing and talk to my neighbors whenever I just want to chat. I don't think I lose hours by playing, my boyfriend and family lives far from me at the moment so it lets me spend time with them and not feel so lonely.

Glamours / Mounts -> You talk about nobody caring about them.

Is the 'showing off' so important, that it matters that other players go 'wow so cool you got that mount' or 'wow your outfit'?
I simply enjoy having a cool mount or cool looking outfit for myself - not because I care what others think.
Cause I'm having more fun doing content with a char that looks cool in my eyes. And cause it's more fun to me flying around on an icy fenrir than on a normal chocobo ^^

For PvE, I enjoy gearing up bit by bit. Getting a little stronger with every piece, and also improving how I play my class.
Levling and learning new classes as well. Not so much interested in progress raiding, I just do what I can that doesn't require a static.
Plenty of enjoyable stuff with dungeons, fates, quests, working on relic/anima weapon, primals for glamours, treasure hunts, A/S hunts, etc etc. Either with randoms or a few friends from FC or linkshells.

For Crafting and Gathering, I enjoy that I'm able to do everything myself if I put enough effort into it (well, except specialist limitations).
Crafting something difficult from gathering the mats until I got them in HQ, then crafting the base mats until I also got them HQ, until finally crafting the end product (hopefully in HQ xD).
It's very satisfying when succeeding in the end, even if it can take a while to get there. (though I balance effort and lazyness, sometimes crafting a few pieces for profit and in return buying some mats I'd otherwise have to gather).
Also it's really cool being able to make my own equipment (for crafter classes), also getting better piece by piece and meeting the requirements for more difficult crafts.

Also when I need a break from it all, I can lean back and do some RP with friends. There's lots of great looking locations that fit well with doing roleplay scenarios.

But yeah.. if you can't find anything fun in all of that, then maybe look for another game. Or another fun activity to spend your time with :3

    I didn't.
every patch is the same, and each time new raids come, it's the same deal - get on it ASAP!!! learn the fight within 1hr of servers going up, or you're not welcome.
on balmung it seems impossible to find a good static, especially since it's US server, and i'm EU. I was thinking of transferring, but i bumped into some old FC members, who changed servers, and they STRONGLY recommended that i DON'T...cause balmung is supposedly the only server that isn't bombarded by RMT.

I was dumped by one static, cause their old drg came back (even though i saw that person online daily, in the LS) i'm suspecting they just replaced me, cause i declined joining their FC (they never even told me it was supposed to be temp)
I joined another one, and we one-shot A5S, and we were going to do it again and try A6S, next week, but i never heard from them again, and they didn't reply to any of my messages...
So i tried to find another one, for a week or 2, then just gave up.
Since raiding is what i enjoy most, and that seems impossible to accomplish, there's really not that much fun stuff to do.
It's a shame my sub expired a few hrs before patch went live, or i would have tried out the new stuff anyway, but watching the new hullbreaker, i instantly got bored of it. Ozma and Nidhogg looks fun, that's about it.

There's no point in playing the game more than for the story - i can come back in 4.0, get ilv 300 stuff from normal dungeons, do story, then come back in 5.0 and get ilv 500 stuff from dungeons and do story, and just skip the endless tome/relic-grinds.

The biggest reason is that i have like a year of game time...that's 1year i could have done something else with my life, instead of wiping in shitty temp statics, or PUG raids.

Spending time with the friends I've made there, spending time with by boyfriend (This game is how I met him), taking screenshots, decorating a house.

I don't really do things like savage raiding. I want to relax when I play, not get stressed out.

    Nothing!

I now show up after patches to do new story and beast tribe quests and that's about it. I have about a hundred other games to play instead of grinding for gear here every patch cycle just in time for it to get replaced by the next set.

What keeps me playing is the fact there's so much stuff I've yet to do since I came into the game kind of late. The Thru the Malstorm patch I believe was when I started so I have a lot of catching up to do in many areas. This leads me to my only problem with the game: Raids... Because I started playing late it takes an ungodly amount of time to draw an older raid dungeon so I can learn everything there is to know about the mechanics and eventually hit the raids that are more current.. Everytime I try to queue an older raid dungeon I'm looking at 45mins plus of just sitting there waiting which is beyond fun

    Honestly? My house.

I'm not ready to give it up and unfortunately I do have some pride on having one for myself, especially due to how low is the number of plots, so my pride is literally holding me back.

But aside that nothing really keeps me going: i occasionally use a Fantasia to try out other races, slowly levelling my crafts so that I leave them to rot (not a fan of the crafting in this game) and that's it: since most of the stuff at 60 can be done without groups I don't have much else to do after I'm done with my roulettes. And I don't like the new primals, despite the fact that I somewhat liked them during ARR.
Unfortunately a lot of my friends have left the game during 3.0, linkshells are dead except for 1 or 2 and I don't like raiding into this game, especially the mentality (PS: I raided in other games, I just dislike the mentality in here). I'm kind of just "doing stuff" as it goes.
And no I don't like the story, so while it's the "strongest" point of the title, I just don't enjoy -this- game's story in particular. And I have a lot of RPGs under my belt so I'm not a hater.

I guess one day when I'm done with my place, I'll be done with this game forever.

Besides blind love and lack of space in HD for install other games, not sure why I play 10-20 hours everyday o.o

I think that will be my plan for the next patches. Kinda sad to hear you were rejected by your FC without clear reasons :/
