Specifically, I have the 150 set, no materia. Now that materia is not stupid to get, I may meld a few pieces if I need to. But I'd rather have better gear.

Carbonweave is 170 set and really easy to get or make yourself. I made my own set and I was also on the HQ 150 set.

I like really easy. I haven't had really easy in anything crafting related since Heavensward came out.
I guess I can get the new omnicrafting set after I have the 170 set? Or should I just chill out there until they release something else that's easy to get?

The 170 set will get you easy 2 star crafting. Put some melds on and high end tools and you can do low end 3 star crafting. Put food and then you can do mid level 3 star. Still testing ways to hit 870 craftsmanship on the 170 set to make the ironworks gear.

Note that you cannot overmeld carbonweaves for some reason. The set is for easy catching up since the class restricted sets were a bit hard to get.

After playing with Ariyala last night, I worked out this: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/UDPQ

ilvl 200 Primary (Upgrade from ilvl through Red Scrips)
ilvl 180 Secondary
Craftsmanship grade IV materia x3
Control grade IV materia x13
CP grade IV materia x5

You'll need to overmeld the CP materia to your entire left side, plus the belt. You may want to add another. This setup is to limit overmelding as much as possible, but you could obviously use low leveled materia.
