I believe originally one of the reasons for this was to prevent potential theft of said items (since they are hard to obtain), since FC hopping and theft were quite rampant back then (has settled down considerably)
As I stand looking out from my window, I reminisce about the old days and the many ups and downs of my adventures throughout Eorzea.
It is then that I know achievement.

With the way so many things in this game are copy paste from WoW you would think the one time they copy paste XI would be how furniture bonuses and placement and removal worked. We never had issues there.
Oh man, don't throw furniture bonuses into the bag of hurt those without houses have. I agree with you, those bonuses were nice but until a room is easily obtainable (which it kinda is through your FC but w/e) I would not suggest bonuses quite yet. They did bring FC bonuses to the table though which is quite nice as long as those in charge listen to the wants of the members.
This is the only game I know of whose housing system destroys the items you remove. We should be able to have a separate housing item inventory that transfers to a new house if we move, or if we just don't want that item displayed currently can put the item into for safekeeping.Greetings, interior decorators of Eorzea!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the current limitations on removal and storage of furnishings.
In regards to this suggestion, we're planning to make some alterations in the future so that rare furnishings which are difficult to obtain (such as those with materials from trials and raids) are no longer lost upon removal. We're aiming to implement this a little bit after Patch 3.35, and are currently reviewing which furnishings we can do this for.

That's a great reason! Now I finally understand why. Though I prefer it if they left some responsibility in the players' hands. I mean, have it say in very obstructive text what responsibilities you're giving away when setting authorisation with ranks or what not.![]()

Any chance we could have this done to hard-to-get housing glamours too? I can't take a break from the game, because if I do, not only do I lose my large house (once that's re-implemented), but when I do, I permanently lose my Moghouse glamour that's on it and that cost me nearly as much as the house.

I'm late to the party, but please extend it to all furniture, including interior fixture, especially the seasonal events ones. (Or sell them at the seasonal/achievement award NPC.)Greetings, interior decorators of Eorzea!

At the same time, can we also please remove the "limited item" restriction? Flowers, retainer, primal furniture and the new fireflies cage. We should be (imo) allowed to place as many (within housing slot) of those as we wish. Heaven forbid me from making a giant garden with more than 10 flower plots and multiple Sephirot trees. With the number of houses to player ratio, anything we design can be consider rare. So please eased up on the restrictions to allow more design choices.
Is there any update on this? I can understand it may have been to protect FC's from having their furnishings stolen, but for personal housing it doesn't make any sense. I'd hate to loose my expanse fountain... those baleens soared in price by an insane amount post 3.3Greetings, interior decorators of Eorzea!

If the reason for destroying items on removal had to do with preventing players from taking items someone else had provided to their FC, consider the solution LOTRO uses to avoid that problem: When someone removes an item from a kinship (read: FC) house and the item is bound to a different player, instead of getting the item they removed, it's placed into escrow where the player it belongs to can pick it up. (The escrow system is like the resident caretakers here in FFXIV, except that it's permanent. I still think the caretaker's storage here should be permanent as well.)
It would perhaps require one additional piece of data on an item. Instead of simply being marked as "bound" it would have to be marked as "bound to <character>". But that should be well within SE's capabilities. We know items can already be associated with a character, since crafted items indicate who crafted them. This would be a similar field, except instead of who crafted it, it would show who owns it (and only if the item is bound).
It wasn't an anti theft measure, it was stated officially it is an effort to keep those items rare.
