    Stuck in Combat

I've recently been using my chocobo companion to help with fights. I noticed just a few moments ago that I was in the East Shroud (Larkscall) and the combat music was playing. However, I had nothing showing enmity and things were quiet. There was no fate but my chocobo was doing the "fighting dance." It seems that it was stuck in combat with who knows what.

Is that normal? Reminds me of another game :-( .... I was finally able to break him out of it by engaging in combat with another mob and then fleeing. Any way to tell the chocobo to stop trying to fight a non-existent enemy short of dismissing it? Because it doesn't heal when it is stuck like that.

That's an old bug that seems to have been around since ARR's launch - for some reason if you're fighting an enemy with your chocobo and the enemy is defeated, sometimes the chocobo's AI doesn't register that and keeps itself in an 'attacking' state, thus also locking the battle music on. Although often sometimes it will after a few minutes finally sort itself out, I found the only way to fix it was to dismiss the chocobo and then resummon them again with another bunch of gyshal greens.

It's just one of these odd little bugs that SE probably could fix but which might just end up breaking something else in far worse ways (due to how intertwined programming is).

Another way you may be able to fix it (haven't had this bug pop up so I haven't been able to test it) would be to set your chocobo to Follow or Healer stance, which causes them to stop meleeing. You can set them back to what they were before once they stop dancing.

The bug still happens even in healer stance though - if the enemy has afflicted the chocobo with a negative status effect that kicks around for ages (such as poison stacks), but the chocobo is unable to remove the effect, it will keep dancing around trying to heal but without success even after the battle has technically ended, it will lock the chocobo in battle mode (with the battle music still playing and HP/MP/TP recovery not occurring as normal). As mentioned usually the only way to fix the problem is to dismiss the chocobo and then call it again.

I was thinking about that this morning really. I was fighting an ochu and they're known for handing out afflictions. I bet the chocobo had an affliction so was stuck in combat mode until that timed out. I caught emnity from another while troubleshooting and by the time I fled the chocobo was back to normal.

Honestly, I'm thinking this may not really be a bug at all; just that the companion AI will keep in fight mode as long as it is being injured and can't heal. Similar to how companion/pet AI will attack a pacified target... not really a bug but just a shortcoming with the AI. Anyway, thanks all for helping me figure this out!
