Meld as you see fit. Some pieces you can "max meld" - meaning that you can bring them to the maximum possible stats for that piece of gear. Other pieces, there simply aren't enough Materia slots to max out, even if you were to overmeld all t5 Materia. And a few others you can max meld only if you overmeld T5 Materia - a rather expensive proposition.
Personally, I'm doing my best to cap out those pieces that it is possible to do so, while leaving the MH, OH, and Body generally alone (will meld some CP onto the MH and OH tools just to reach the max CP). I won't quite succeed - I'm not going to even attempt to overmeld a T5 Materia, it's too expensive - but I'll come reasonably close.

i don't have the budget for all V's, but i would be fine with doing my first gem slots as V's and go to IV's for the rest of the way.
would following the same pattern as the original poster be fine for the formula though? i don't want to remeld
So the tier V price dropped a lot and I have remelded some of my gears
MH/OH asides , only missing 2 point of control in neck and earring
Don't know whether I should bother tho consider last time I overmelded control V to the 2nd sort ( 17% ) on the bracelet blew up 17x of it

At this stage, I wouldn't. Better to wait until 3.4 drops. If the requirements turn out fairly low, tier V could be a waste. My personal estimate is 940/910 for craft and control, respectively. So the tier V price dropped a lot and I have remelded some of my gears

The only thing I'm re-melding is my chest which I was EXTREMELY lazy on and Just threw x3 III materia on. Everything else has one V materia in each, none the less I'm short ~8 control from belt and accessories I believe. I chose no IV overmelds four deep and no V overmelds. I've done IV overmelds four deep before but got #@$%@#$% on them when I tried this patch... burnt my stash and our servers control IV market out when trying on a single accessory. Sometimes RNGed says no.
But all these super zaney crazy melds, while super pretty are going to amount to nothing as SE won't be making the requirements that strict. Though... it is fun to just blow ambient money sometimes rather than just sit on the dragon horde.

Im missing 2 control from the waist and one each from neck, bracelet and earrings for the gear thats actually possible to cap. To overmeld tier 5 materia in the neck, bracelet and earrings to get ONE more control is simply insane.

That would be awfully generous of them. I'm well over that threshold without food and with no melds on MH/OH/chest and i170 accessories. If we get legit 4-star gear worth crafting I wouldn't be surprised by crafts >1000 and control 930-950

Very unlikely. Those stats would render the Augmented ilvl 200 set utterly worthless. Even pentamelding grade Vs in nearly every slot in the bits of Ironworks you have (Belt and Accessories), you would still only amass roughly 991 Craft and 943 Control without specialists. This means everyone who opted for red scrips gear literally wasted their time. Consider without any melds whatsoever, the Agumented set plus Ironworks nets you 929/883 and the current highest tier recipes are 870/835. We already dwarf the requirements. I suspect they will keep in line with that hence the lower estimate.

I don't understand people aiming 415 CP when you can go for 430
15 point différence is 1 skill at 100% or innovation
Why not capping the main stat ?
