Cash shops have NO place whatsoever in a P2P game.Subscription fees or cash shop, pick one; you don't get both.
I've quit several MMORPGs due to that sort of double-dipping nonsense.

The day when cash shop is added is the day the only updates we will get weekly are new cash shop items...
It's in every game that has a cash shop, they don't update on content at all, or rarely, and only update their cash shop like daily... All developer (or a lot of it) effort and resources go to develop the cash shop instead of new content, because that's how they make profit.
Of course, I won't be here as well if there's a cash, I pay to play and expect acess to the whole game. (All hairstyles included)

I wouldn't mind it, as long as it doesn't give you an advantage over other players.

Uh, people here really need to differ-.-
A cash shop for cosmetic stuff in a P2P game is fine.
It does not mean playing is no longer possible without buying stuff from there,
it does not mean we only get CS updates instead of real patches.
Read the OP again, he did not say "I wish FFXIV goes free2play with a CS"
Only free2play games rely overly on a CS.
Look at WoW - it's P2P and does not rely on the Cash shop at all (people would rage if that happened) but still, they have stuff like..cool looking mounts you can buy for $60-$200.
It's purely aestethic, nothing you need, but everybody who is stupid enough to buy it "just for the looks" is happy.
So what's wrong with the idea of the OP?
Don't bring you F2P experiences here. Show me just one P2P MMORPG with a CS which made it so you have to rely on the cs plus paying a monthly fee.
I'm sure you won't find one.
Although I like the reward idea too.
I'll name one.Uh, people here really need to differ-.-

Phantasy Star Universe JP
Also, I like decorating my character in games more than getting good stats.
Why should I be required to pay more than you? Are you someone special or something? That is not fair.
I rather have cash shop with weapons than cosmetic stuff.
The only people who are for cash shop are those that expect items they don't want to buy in the cash shop anyway. Well guess what, some people like these items and would like access to them with the monthly fee. Just like you would like access to good gears with your monthly fee.

As long as the shop was for future aesthetics only like tattoos, hair style changes, a glowing aura, or what not. I wouldn't mind. I absolutely however refuse to play a game that supports cash shops that sell items, exp boosts, weapons, or what-ever.
Why are so many people in favor of paying extra for cosmetic changes? We're already paying for the game here, we shouldn't have to pay extra for content, especially if the only thing it offers is cosmetic changes. Simple additions like that should be expected to be included in the game with the monthly fee we're already paying.
Why should one hairstyle cost money over another one that's included in the game? Why do you want to pay extra for such basic features?
And paying extra for things like cool mounts or larger additions like that? Things like that should be earned by playing the game and overcoming challenges, not by the amount of extra cash left in your wallet.
If I buy something like that with real money, it isn't satisfying, it's bittersweet. There was no challenge and I'm left a bit poorer. It's much more satisfying to feel like you've earned it by defeating a difficult boss or quest line tied into the game itself.

This is why I refer to the whole issue as a design flaw. Changing your hair is a basic feature that should not have a premium associated with. These are suppose to be immersive persistent worlds right? Well I don't know about you guys but I can change my beard, and my hair, in the real world at my leisure, and I don't have to pay to do that. A pair of clippers and some scissors go along way.Why are so many people in favor of paying extra for cosmetic changes? I can dye my clothes if I want to, or buy any color of clothes I want.
You get my drift.
These aren't options one should pay a per item or per change premium for. These are just basic features that were not included in the design of the game, making it an inherent flaw.
You could look at it a greedy developers setting themselves up to nickel and dime you to death, but then I would say its a developer flaw + a design flaw.

First off, I think this is like the 10th thread of it's kind. Nobody wants it but a select few.
Games that are P2P that implement vanity items turn out distracting from development on free content in the game. Yoshida has already told us it takes them 6 months to design a gearset, now you want them to waste that time so people can look pretty?
It failed in LotRO and forced the game into F2P Microtransactions
It failed in Aion and started causing NCSoft to focus a bulk of their patches on new costumes. Granted it is a KMMO and vanity there is everything.
Simply NO!

no cash shop pls. Idc which kind of goods would be sold.
