[New Player] finds crafting too grindy for a p2p game.

    Hey guys!

I've been playing for a few days now and my main class is lvl30. I decided to start gathering and crafting, which is something I love doing in every MMO.

However, when I reached lvl20 Weaver, I realized that crafing is way too grindy. I need hundreds of Diremite whatever to proceed and the drop rate from those scopions is ridiculously low. I don't even get 1 per kill.

Then I also need hundreds of Lightning shards, which is again hours of logging for this trivial mat. And this is at lvl20 in a p2p game.

I also need Aldgoat skin for lvl25 recipes, which is something I can't even get because the area it comes from is lvl30+ and no harvesting nodes appeared for me.

I'm just saying I had great faith in this game, but I'm about to give up on crafting. I realize I will probably get attacked by fanboys, but for me a b2p + sub game just can't have so much grind.

    All advice is appreciated.

For shards, you can do the 1, 5, 10 quests for all crafting jobs to begin with. That should give you quite a sum of shards.

The diremites territory is quite tedious. Although compared to the initial 2.0 drop rate its much better. Then again, you might need to farm the diremites that resides east of Fallgourd Float (North Shroud). Mobs are lvl 25ish if I recall.

Aldgoat skin, you can simply grind the goats near Drybone (East Thanalan). These mobs are 16-18. They do drop meat, horn and skin. Could take a while too but like the webs its not that bad (Compared to 2.0 drop rate).

Crafting takes time, and I advise to level the Gatherer professions too. Around 30s you need items that can be obtained only by harvesting nodes. However, should you want to simply power level your way to 50, using Guild Leaves on major cities gives tons of experience, especially if you can craft high quality items (or buy them on the market).

    Good luck.

Thanks, that's already pretty helpful! I am a new player, can't afford AH so I'm gonna go the grindy way. Or maybe I should just ignore crafting and do it the easy way when I'm full of gil further down the road. Definitely tempted to ignore crafting now.

Get through the game a little longer, lots of quests and mobs and stuff give you shards, eventually you will have a decent amount of shards and won't need to gather or buy more, for a while at least.

Crafting gets easier with more classes leveled as they can share skills in between them to help on crafts and trust me it goes a long way of making everything easier to craft.
Should progressively work them to level 15 each at least for all the basic cross class skills. It's a quick process, doesn't take much work and it pays off!

Also this website is very helpful there's stuff you can buy from NPCs that you may not know and its all just there, so before going to the market try a quick search here! On the left side bellow the main bar

    - If you level your retainers, you can have them do a lot of the farming for annoying materials.
    - I would focus on keeping gathering a bit ahead of your crafting.
    - I would also consider leveling your crafting jobs together as you go.

It's a long process, but in the end it's worth it. Don't get ahead of yourself. At 60 the catch up gearing added in 3.3 makes the playing field pretty even.

Came here to say this. As well as, WVR is one of the more complicated classes to level. Other classes don't take mats to make mats to make mats to make product. Don't give up yet Crafting is very rewarding and enjoyable (IMO) in this game.

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

Crafting is SUPER tedious. Trust me it doesn't get better. The only reaon to do it is to make a lot of gil to (you don't really need a lot of gil for anythingin this game except housing) so mostly for show, or to make gear so you can make more gear...
Some people also just like having lots of gil .

If your set on it though, lean what a macro is.
When I was low level I hired people to ge me mats, and I'd make them a set of gear for a stack of say aldgoat skins of w/e.

Last tip, I know thatit is fun to level up and use gear you made yourself and stuff, so if that's why your doing it then that's cool go for it.
But the Fastest least grinding method for levelling is using allowances (save up 100 then max out one craft ) and try to do as many GC turn ins as you can manage.

Tats how I do mine, then at like 52 you can use collectability turn ins.

EDIT *derp* I forgot Your playing as a girl character THE ACTUAL easiest way, is to flirt with guy characters and get them to make you your gears, then save up allowances, and flirt with guys to make your turn in items for free. Then give them a /wink "Nyank U! <3!" Tat should easily get you free crap.... You can also use that for free Gil

Level your battle classes first. There is little advantage to having a crafting class.
Most importantly, get high enough to unlock the Ixali quests. This is the easiest and most satisfying way to level crafters. This, and the Grand Company daily turnins, is how you want to level.
Try to keep them roughly the same level so they share gear. There's a good reason to level them all. At 50, you get the max benefit from them. You can do the moogle quests past that, which I believe requires a lv60 battle class.

You don't need hundreds of anything if you level via leves, which is the optimal and recommended way to level crafters.

Except maybe shards, but those can be bought for cheap on most servers.

Ok, just a couple things as someone who leveled a weaver kinda on its own before i decided to do all the classes. There are a couple ways to cheat on diremite. If you assigned one of your retainers to a battle class, you can assign them to go get some diremite webs for you at level 24 or higher. And if memory serves, one of the best sources at your level is actually the dungeon Toto-Rak. I also had a friend leveling LTW at the time, and i offered him a web for skin exchange that worked out for both of us(Rikia was dead on about killing level 18ish goats near camp drybone to get skins). And the final cheat you cant currently use, but its out there. Once you advance the story far enough, you can do quests to become friends with outcasts of the major beast tribes. Each tribe sells some crafting materials that might otherwise be annoying to get. One of them sells Undyed Velveteen Cloth for a couple hundred gil each, potentially cutting your web needs by a lot in exchange for a bit of cash.
