How did you level your tank?

I've done it probably the worst way imaginable. FATEs and leves. But that's mostly because I was never confident in my tanking skills. Also I'm a very slow-and-steady player, so wasn't very comfortable being put in charge of dungeon pacing.

Then go play dps.If you don't want to do tank content then you shouldn't be playing tank.The Only way to get better at tank is by practise.(actually tanking,fates don't count as tanking)

People don't have to play to personal standards to be able to actually play. Heck, i'm a healer and I don't DPS. If I wanted to DPS, I'll switch my soul to Summoner. Some people play certain classes because they enjoy how the class plays. I know a guy who plays Dark Knight and doesn't tank. He just enjoys playing the class casually.

I'm not sure you understand what you are saying.If people Want to play tank for casual and story thats fine.But story content is also locked with dungeons and trials.So you'd have to level a dps or a healer anyway if you don't want to tank in dungeons.2 dps and a healer are not going to carry a tank for a whole dungeon run to get past content.Same with trials.The kick option will be selected instead.This is not a personal oppinion this is just fact.Also not useing a tank in dungeon or trials is a complete waste of the majority of their skill sets.It's like picking a dps and just only useing auto attack on monsters.

Even when I was brand new to the game, I noticed that nothing through the MSQ required anybody to be great. I've completed dungeons and trials with bad tanks, DPS and healers (when I played a DPS) with little issues. It was only when multiple people were bad, did we have real problems. Maybe it's just my experience but in my entire time playing, I've only seen twice where someone was vote-kicked. I've never initiated one because I've never thought someone was so bad that they deserved it. Maybe they were like the guy in question. Maybe they were just getting their hands dirty. Many are gated behind ilvl requirements which I found all of them very easy, even when the minimum ilvl is met.

Y'know, I never said anywhere in there that I ran dungeons with my tanks. The nice thing about this game is how you can do literally everything you want. I like being a casual tank. If I have friends that need a tank for a run, I'm ok with that. But I also like being able to hop into FATEs if I see anyone getting kicked around.

Thread is just about how tanks were leveled. I run all DPS through dungeons several times over. I even don't mind healing so much. As for tanking, could easily be that my lack of confidence may stem from running the low level dungeons where tanks can struggle without their stance. Maybe I could tank reasonably well now, having gotten far enough for them. Idunno. For now, I'm content.

So yeah. Maybe don't be so eager to jump to conclusions. Or, here's a wild thought, you could actually offer some positive encouragement to players that maybe avoid roles/duties because they don't want to be judged by players like you.

I was worried when I first started tanking till I got my tanking stance at level 30, everything went smooth from there ^^
