Now, if I leave it up will it light up green when I can update or do I have to close it and keep trying?

As far as I know it doesn't refresh on its own you'd have to keep closing out and relogging into the launcher to check. Its a bit tedious.

you have to close it and keep trying. it has to do the version check when you start the launcher.
