Question About Buying Housing And Switching Grand Companies

I'm very worried now... on the 24th I switched from the Twin Adder to the Maelstrom. I didn't think this might be a problem. I was anticipating everything else with buying a new house - my character is currently parked outside of the housing district ready to go as soon as I log in.

I relinquished my old house yesterday - I know according to this wiki (http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Personal_Housing) the requirements are:

Character with level 50 in 1 of the classes.
Second Lieutenant in 1 of the Grand Companies.

I didn't think that I maybe had to rank all the way up again with the Maelstrom. A friend told me that I have to be currently enlisted in the GC I am max rank in to be able to purchase a new house. I'm in one of the lowest ranks in the GC and I'm afraid I won't have the time to rank up. It hasn't been 15 days so I can't change back. D=

So if anyone can confirm if this is true or false I would be very grateful! And if it's true it sucks so bad. T_T

Sorry, but yes as far as I know you do have to be second lieutenant with your CURRENT grand company. I don't believe it will take any previous ranks into consideration.

You could still try to buy the house, but if not you can level all the way up in just a few hours if you have a level 60 (and you do it seems) and hopefully there would still be houses left.

I assisted an alt of mine in doing this recently and the dungeons you need to do, you can do unsynced, solo if need be. The hardest part I found was getting the required seals. For the first few levels I handed in the crafted gear requirements to help as well as just did some fates (the higher the level the more seals you get).

Once I'd ranked up enough to get the gear hand in unlocked what I did then was do Stone Vigil for a few hours (unsynced, solo as a whm where I could just pull everything from boss to boss and kill at once - probably works with other jobs too) and there's quite a lot of pink loot in those dungeons, all of which can be traded in for seals.

The timer to switch back might actually be up when the servers go up. So you might want to check if you are eligible for transferring.

Edit, actually you'd be on day 14, and it is a 15 day timer...sorry

This is unfortunate to hear. >_< I have a ton of gear from the Void Ark and stuff on my retainer... if I can't buy it myself I can try to spam the hunting log + dungeons I need unsynced and hopefully rank up quick with those turn ins. I am going for a very specific plot and if I can't get it then I just am not going to buy a house at all, I'd rather wait it out for more new wards. There's only going to be 8 of this plot available so my worry is it will be gone quick, however it is the most expensive one @ 50 mil so I might be okay. =s

I legit feel so bad for you right now. D: I hope your desired plot isn't in the Mist cause I'm sure those mansions will go fast regardless of server populations.

I don't know how wealthy you are in game, but another option could be to quickly start an FC and hand in GC items to get to rank 6 to unlock housing. iirc around 750 militia chokers or equivalent hand ins can boost you up to rank 6, that may or may not be faster than having to solo dungeons while seal farming. Of course you'll need the 3 people to actually help you create the FC. It is a lot of effort, but again if you're rich enough to just buy everything from the MB it may be quicker than levelling your GC rank. Finally when you have another 50 mil you can demolish / repurchase instantly.

It's another method, but only viable for the super rich I guess.

I am happy in my FC, I only want this as a personal so if I might just be out of luck. >_< I will simply have to do my best. This really sucks and doesn't make sense to me if this is how it is. =/

I wonder if a GM would somehow be able to make an exception and get my character into the Twin Adder before the time limit or something. >_<

Just get a Tank to help you run unsync'ed Dungeons, Craft, turn in dungeon drops or buy gear to turn in for seals. You need the dungeons/mobs & 44K seals. This can be done in some hours if you're serious about it. You can even run the dungeons unsync'ed just for the chests. The turn-ins aren't that bad on them you can get 300+ seals a sweep in lower tiered dungeons like Sastahsa which is only like a 7-10 minute run @ lv 60.
