Will the NA servers ever get moved?

I may be in the minority here complaining about it, especially because I'm from Australia so we would get it the worst in comparison to the majority of users.

I know we will never get true oceanic servers, and I don't think we should because we would have a lot smaller pool of players.

That being said, why are the servers hosted in Canada? For me I get 280 ping MINIMUM because of this, and it always spikes me up way higher. The lowest I can get my ping to is 230-240 using ping reduction programs. Problem is, they spike too at times and it's very frustrating - I would say I average 250 ping majority of the time.

I'm not sure how it is for other NA players, but I really wish the servers would get moved.

Knowing we will never get oceanic servers, I would highly suggest moving them to the same area the NA WoW servers are hosted (I think they are in Los Angeles?) because this would help us (again, the minority) out severely. I would have 180 ping to that location and would solve all my issues (this is more than playable for an Aussie when it comes to MMOs).

How much would it effect in a positive or negative way to the rest of the NA server players? I'm not sure - only square would really know that but I really don't think where they are currently hosted is good for anyone, and that includes the majority but that's just my opinion.

I doubt they'll make any changes. At launch most Oceanic players ended up on Tonberry (JP server) as it was better for ping. I'm not sure if that is still the case, but it had a very high % of English speaking players due to this. If you're already established on your own server it may not be an option, but if you're willing to look around you may find a better situation there.

Sorry, but I'm the other way and really hope they *don't* move the NA servers. I play from the UK and personally have no problems with where they are now, but if there were moved... well it introduces a chance that I would have problems, especially if they're moving to the west coast of the US like you suggested. I know it's not really what you want to here, but Canada is in North America so geographically they are already in the right place.

From what I understand most of the US network infrastructure is really bad so if SE moved the servers somewhere else (especially to the west coast like you suggested) it risks causing problems for a lot of their existing subscribers (who don't have problems right now and are giving them money each month) as well as the massive costs involved to SE with no real benefit to them. They only moved the EU servers because they were designated Europe but weren't in Europe (and now they are).

Ideally they could just open another data server where you suggested or an actual Oceanic server, but ignore the cost of doing that (and maintaining it), moving worlds might technically be a straight forward process, but as you're probably aware it's not that simple because of friends, linkshells, free companies, housing, etc. If moving is an option though, it's worth looking at Tonberry as Dracian suggested above. I've also heard it has a high proportion of English Oceanic players.

I've played on tonberry, the ping is definitely better but that's not a solution for me. My friends play on the NA servers.

Even more to the point, you HAVE to queue with JP language option enabled to get a party in a decent time, and it's just not fun playing with people who don't speak the same language, the translator thing is just not good enough let alone the social fact it cannot make up for. That's why I went back to the NA servers, I got tired of ending up in groups with JP players. I could queue with FC mates and all that but that isn't available all the time, etc etc.

Point of the matter is, it's better just being on an all-english realm.

Why do the NA servers need to be moved? Most Australians play on JP servers.

Honestly I would say just as many play on NA servers.
