sadly that is pretty much the standard in mmos these days ffxi is one of the rare game where gear you farmed years before actually was still usable. now its a race, like you said. but they do it because it keeps competition going for pve players. what fun is a game when there is not much competition.

my house is in rebuilding stage. this house is very small and in unpopular area.
the roof, floors, plumbing, and gas are all broke.
my landlord fired the original crew. for not completing the job on time
the new crew comes in and makes all kinds of promises, and shows me pics.
now for next year i have to wait for them to finish the job.
should I move to a more popular, bigger house rent it for same price?
or stay in the part of my house that is not being rebuilt. but still pay same rent as others.

    Lolwhut?

My leaping boots were and emperors hairpin were exremly important pieces of gear for my Thief early on. If I "Didn't care" about my gear I'd never have as many party invites as I did. Perhaps it was just my server but Odin would totally shun you for being a gimp. The only people who could get away with fighting with crap gear were bards...

Leaping Lizzy could have been takedown solo, but Valkurm Emporer was impossible at 24. Wide scan was all but required to camp it, especially back when it was botted by RMT when it still was a sellable drop. So you either got it with a higher level job or had higher level help.

But that was one of the sick mentalities of the early XI community -- that there was no space between elite and gimped. I remember getting booted from parties as a 35 Monk because I didn't have OKotes. No one card that it was my first job and that I didn't really have the means to generate 30 million Gil. You were expected back then to either have the best or to not show up at all.

But that's why it was a race to cap. Because even if my 35 monk happened to get claim by having Mee Deggi pop on top of me, it'd have been a brief encounter in the bird's favor. I eventually gave up and leveled rdm because all I needed was mp gear to keep up a refresh cycle. Then at cap I could make enough for OKotes and SH.

XI NMs are a horrible example of midlevel content. Standing in place hoping the three to 72 hour spawn (depending on the NM) is in you favor sucks. It's a bare bones time sink that the elitist community bought into hook, line and sinker.

The typical casual player has become so concerned with having everything now he can't see the journey being as important as the destination. Once upon a time, being casual didn't involve having to dumb things down nor requiring everything now, but obviously no longer the case since the average casual player is always screaming about how everything's so hard or it takes too long to do.
    Yea, funny start.

And you are right, most casual games are made that way to keep ppl in the game as the ppl playing have no dedication to any one game. But the ones i think you thinking about are the ones who feel like they should be just as good as the ppl who put more time in the game as them and don't understand what really makes the other players that good. They think if they had the same gear and/or if the content was easier that i would put them on the same level. On the other side you have the hardcore players who think that the amount time you spent in the game is a way of gauging someone's skill, which can be true but with something like this it is way better for it to be optional because then you that know the player really enjoys what they are doing.

Maybe i just been playing games for to long but for me the destination is when you ding a level, every level because thats the whole point in leveling it's not just to level, it should never be just to level, it should be for the new skills, stats, new gear, and the new stuff you get to do. so the journey, as i see it, is the process of gaining exp between levels where there is nothing new to enjoy, just a step you need to go though to get to more new (fun?) stuff.

In the past having a job leveled meant something.

You'd go and focus your character's career in certain job, maybe two if you had the time, and you invested in it. And eventually you'd hit the max level and get all your capped gear... and people would see it, and it'd give them something to look up to.

You'd become known amongst your friends as the healer or the tank or the damage dealer, depending on what your focus was.

But now everyone has pretty much everything leveled thanks to the new and dumb leveling curve. People even level a job to max just for the sake of equipping ifrit drops. And they get there within a week.

Most of the equipment you buy lasts less than a day since you are always qualifying for an upgrade because levels less than an hour to be completed.

You can get from 1 to 50 in just days if you shut your brain off through it.

Whats wrong with taking your time to build your character? Why must people who just started playing be doing endgame content?

Rate this thread up if you'd like for a steeper exp curve on the levels.
Oh your so fricking wrong... especially here "But now everyone has pretty much everything leveled thanks to the new and dumb levelling curve."

Let me enlighten you... this game is for a year and some more time out now, It was more than enough time to bring all the classes to level 50 in first months of gameplay. The only ppl that aren't levelled up to 50 in all theirs glory are ppl who didn't played all this months or ppl that joined recently and theirs max is about lvl 25.

Please SE don't listen to the OP... but more importantly, don't make our lives Hellish because someone wand an Chinese hardcore grind again...

PS: Ah I've almost forgot, those ppl bringing all classes to lvl50 in first months ware ppl who still know what is fatigue. Basically you didn't give a #&@* about it and grind until you get 0% exp from everything.

EDIT: "You can get from 1 to 50 in just days if you shut your brain off through it." -> wrong
    EDIT2:

If that was true, when I've started with my PGL now which was at the level of 25, It would be already at lvl 50 instead of just 31 ages ego... (I believe I've started working on him about more than a week ego)

Its really sad that the majority of this community (judging from the amount of likes on a initial post) wants the easy way out.. I mean come on in WoW it even takes time to level up.. you can now get every job to 50 in this game in less than a month .. DoW of course.. and DoM

I am in the camp of waiting to see how the the progression through quests for jobs works out, as well as what role classes will ultimately play compared to jobs. This discussion seems a bit premature to me. I have confidence Yoshi-P will make a sound decision on the matter.

I like your logic but it's called "mid game" not end game. Lv 50 is the mid cap. By the time they raise level cap, we will never know how much harder leveling will become.

People need to realize that being max level is not an accomplishment.
