I did the challenge log, some triple triad, "finished' chocobo racing. I'm only 50k from a fenrir now. To be fair, chocobo racing was the bulk of it.

This. Because races if you place first will get you a solid 800-1000 MGP, could be more if your bird is higher pedigree (Mine was 2nd) and the challenges alone are one time chunks of five digit MGP. Then the GATES that spawn every half hour, didn't realize the Typhoon one was worth 12k if you don't fall off. If possible, ask for FC to activate Jackpot II to help a bit. I think I got roughly 400k in a week (to be fair, it was Tues - Tues so was able to take advantage of two challenge logs.)
