I used to be one of those people who looked through rose-coloured glasses, who smiled when I saw the Marriage Partner Mega Hookup thread but now I want to warn those searching for online love like I was to be careful. Trust your instincts, don't be afraid to ask questions, do not be made to feel ashamed for having doubts.

I have tried in vain to warn the community of my story but the online predator who stalked me for years with his crazy psychotic behaviour has attempted to silence me. I have a personal blog for my character that outlines the situation. (Google you'll find it!) I truly do not wish to see anyone else fall victim like I did

Believe in love! Enjoy the game! Combine the two if you can but remember to be cautious of lying wolves in sheep's clothing.

No, I met someone in 1.0 we played, took our "relationship" outside of the game and 4.5 years later I find out the lying pig has been in a relationship for over a decade with the same woman. He stalked, tormented, and harassed me for years. I just want to warn those who are looking for love.

Yup some take it seriously and want more than just a in game partner. I found my partner through it but made it clear up front it is in game only. Made a alt email address just for this, if it goes sour I can delete the email and no harm done. I would never dream of meeting anyone I met in the game outside the game.

i can understand why someone who spends alot of time in the game would look for someone who also looks for someone in the game with similar interests but as a community we need to look out for each other, spread the word

Sorry about having issues. My RL Hubby and I have had items to get married IG for a really long time never get around to do it. But I would only Marry someone I know IRL or have a good relationship iG. On that note. I meet my hubby while Playing FFXI and it took 6 years after we got Married IRL for immigration to get everything done.

Anyway, I think I can understand where you are coming from, my friends have had similar encounters in the previous game, and by the time they found out it was too late. It is very easy for online people to deceive people over the internet, so yes always safeguard yourself and be aware of the things you should not disclose. I'm curious can't you actually make a police report on this dude since it seems more of an outside the game kind of thing now?

I've seen pretty creepy and weird people in this game, so yeah lol

Take a look at that thread and you'll see... There are many who hint on the possibility of taking it further. With the trend seeming to be males seeking it. Now, some females hint it but not nearly as much as male profiles. Males also seemed to be only acceptent of RL females to marry more so than females only accepting males. Little stuff I noticed there. I know people (mainly females) who ended up caught in the "take it further" issue with people in-game..

Sometimes, many times, people just take it too far. And see it as RL dating rather than a game to have fun.

I'd be wary of anyone online at first. I met my husband in FFXI, but I knew him for several years before we met in person.
My apologies that you had a rough go of it OP, and its sound advice to anyone to be cautious; online or otherwise... but dont entirely discount a relationship just because it started online.
