I don't mind giving gil to a vendor and get it out the system. I do mind being forced into either undergoing an additional, lengthy grind in content unrelated to the content I intend to engage in with the weapon (battle content) or giving it to another player simply because he enjoys that unrelated content and thus gets easy access to the items I need (Crafting, Chocobo Racing, Triple Triad, Sightseeing, Whatever).

Anything to speed the process up a little... As I mentioned earlier, that "unidentified items" step was brutal for me as far as timing goes.

Gil being involved is likely just for the players that want to speed up the process by including materia, perhaps they'll even go as far as limiting it to only allow grade V materia to be used.

They already said materia won't be used.

Recently on duty commenced yestderday they said materia will not be used for this step. The only thing that got mentioned about materia was when you finish the relic the weapon it will compare to a weapon with 3 tier 5 materias on it.

I still don't know which stats I want to assign my ast relic... the pain of running both sects

They put up an English version on that screengrab at yesterday's duty commenced. Relic weapons start just before the 37 minute mark. Next step will be ilvl240.

i240 is good to know also. I'm kinda glad I skipped the Lore Tome weapons entirely...

It's scaled with how piety melds work, since they give less in 3.0. It is unfortunate that you can't have piety be your main secondary stat, but you could max piety and max SS for example, and then remove your SS melds to add more piety throughout your build.
