On one side I can understand that you and your friends want to do the raids and other high level content together, but on the other side you are playing a FF game. ^^; If they are already complaining that its too much after only two months of this game than I am not sure if this is truly the game for them. I mean its completely okay if they or others don't like the story and skip most of it but I really hope that SE keeps one of their advantages which is (imo) their story and not make all those shortcuts. (All the work that they have to put into that X_X and how would most of the story even make any sense if they don't need 3.0 story or are able to skip most of it). And in terms of a MMO three months is really short so at least for me that would be kinda fast to reach endgame.

Like some said these quests were included into this game over years, so maybe they have to accept that they cant be finished in one month. Leveling up and going through the story was the best time in the game for me. You always learned new things (this would be different if you had to watch it with your alt character) and you did not have that much repetition. Now most of the time its nothing more than farming the same dungeons again and again to get better equipment and wait for the next patch..rinse and repeat. It still can be fun, even more if you have nice people with you but it can also be quite boring at a time.

I really hope that your friends will stay with this game even after they reach endgame but I really fear that it may get too boring for them too fast. I will always remember some of our former guild mates that power leveled through the story to get to the endgame content and to get their equipment but after they geared their class a new patch came out, with new gear and new stones to farm and they were really shocked about it. All I thought was "Welcome to the FF14 endcontent". And who knows, maybe if they reach high level they will notice that they cant do raids? Or maybe you will not find enough other people to raid with or its not fun for them?

So I am sorry but sadly I don't feel this way.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

I have new friends who play and who can't join us but we can certainly join them in duties that they need to do. I think you friend needs to stop focusing on trying to catch up with you and others who've been playing this game for a long time and take their time and simply enjoy the story and the game. They should focus on story, leveling there war/magic class and even take the time to gather and perhaps craft. There is a lot to do in this game and it shouldn't be rushed just because they are new.

They aren't going to be doing high level end game content soon and they need to accept it and frankly end game isn't all it's cracked up to be. I've had some of my best times leveling my main and my alts through story and doing all that needs to be done not just once but for each of my two alts. Now granted I didn't take the time most of the time to watch the cutscenes the 2nd and 3rd time around but I did watch many of them.

What's the point on a game, no matter the genre, if you skip all? It is like I want to play the final boss of a game, but I don't want play the entire game because is long, I want a shorcut to send me to the final boss. This is the same. A MMO is still a videogame, and works as a videogame. What game is fun if it send you to the end wit hout doing anything?

I've got mad respect for anyone who joins the game late and sticks with the story the whole way through. I've known way too many people who have picked up this game, made a mad dash to max level, skipping all the story, then complained about the lack of content. Yeah, you just skipped it all!

That's what different MMOs are for then. Some MMOs are designed for raiders, some are designed for crafting, some are designed for those who enjoy sandbox elements more, some are designed with a PvP focus, and some are designed for those who enjoy narrative and story. FFXIV is a game designed for people who enjoy narrative and story. If you don't like narrative, you're playing the wrong game xD

By any chance are they growing impatient as a result of being pressured to level and access locked content?

I can tell you first hand that pressure from my own FC came via offers to powerlevel me and I shut this down immediately.

Running synced content with RL mates and/or FC buddies provides quite possibly some of the best and fun experiences to be had in the game, and it's constantly taken for granted by those rushing to endgame.

All those Lv 50 quests keeping your buddies from accessing HW? Remind them that unless they start a new character, they'll never experience them again.

I see it as a problem with this game, makes it very anti-pick up and play in a sense.

WoW you can just grind to cap and raid instantly, here you have to spend a month or two going through all the filler and cutscenes.

There's nothing wrong with it per say, but man, I feel bad for new players who come to the game in another year or two when the next expansion is out. And even past that, it's going to get ridiculous.
