Stuck: Challenge Log and GC Promotion

Hi all
I'm stuck on my Challenge Log and thus GC Promotion. The latter depends on completing the former which requires me to do crafting and supply missions. I am levelling dps right now. Why would the quests be organised this way? Is there a way to get around the problem without levelling a Crafting class?

I think you might have misread some text. Receiving promotion in your Grand Company was possible before the challenge log existed, and has no direct ties to it. If you simply need more company seals, they are rewarded through battle by completing fates and grand company levequests. Crafting is only ever an option.

Challenge Log is completely separate from your Grand Company - there are entries in the Challenge Log that reward you for doing certain things for your Grand Company, but your GC promotion is not based on that. Ranking up in your Grand Company requires Company Seals that you can simply get by going around and doing FATEs, plus certain ranks (particularly higher ones) require a quest to be completed along with undertaking a certain dungeon and completing the first two levels of your Grand Company Hunting Log (the third one is not required for a promotion). So basically, don't worry, you don't need to have a Crafting class to get a promotion in your Grand Company.

Guys, my Flame Personnel Officer says, to qualify for your next promotion, you must complete Rank 1 in the Grand Company objectives of your hunting log and blah blah I haven't.

It seems this is not the right NPC. Whom do I get a promotion from?

Ah, that's the cause of the problem then - you have gotten confused between the Challenge Log and the Hunting Log, the latter which is indeed the requirement for getting the promotion (don't worry, a lot of players get confused between the two). Your Grand Company Hunting Log is found in the 'Logs' menu under 'Hunting Log', and then under the class icons, click on the flag for your GC (in your case, the Ul'dah flag), and then go out and fight the enemies listed.

Some of the enemies you need to kill are only found in a certain dungeon though (Sunken Temple of Qarn if I remember rightly), so you will need to enter that dungeon and kill them to complete the log, but you won't have to finish the dungeon in order to satisfy it.

That message simply means that you haven't completed rank 1 of your GC hunting log yet.

To check which parts you still have to complete, open your hunting log (Logs > Hunting Log on the menu buttons, or pressing the default keybind for it, H)
In your hunting log, click on the GC symbol, below the class ones.

I know the problem was already solved, but just wanted to quickly clarify, for the rank 1 hunting log, it's likely Halatali, which may also explain why some players may be confused and miss this, with Halatali being the first optional dungeon.
