AST right now. I've healed as WHM and SCH in Wolves Den back in the day with similar results.

Depending on which Sect you're using will dictate how much healing the game perceives you've done by the end of the match. Shields aren't calculated as Healing, while overhealing with Regens will count. So if you are getting outhealed, it could just be that the opposing healer is spamming AoE or keeping up regens.

Balmung seems to be the place I keep hearing about for PVP. I really need some help with healer in this game and I'm looking for some friends to help me improve. Even when we win at the Feast, I just can't ever seem to pull high healing numbers. It makes me wonder if I only win because my other 3 team members are just that much better. Currently on Excalibur but PVP here seems dead.

That and Sargatanas, which is where I'm moving my main for 3.3 after all.

As for healing, it's really not about numbers. Whether or not you and your team are dying to damage you could heal through is a better metric of whether or not you're healing "enough". A healer that keeps everyone alive and spends a few GCDs on well-timed slows or sleeps is more useful than a healer who pulls slightly higher numbers with no CC.

A few of the people I ran with who complained about being matched with me took issue with the numbers. I guess I just took their criticism at face value. I still feel like I'm lacking somewhere and need to improve. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Without seeing the games it's hard to say if you're missing out on things like Medica II uptime, etc, that could be reflected in numbers. There are threads with links to streamers for all the healing jobs, so if you're concerned you could take a look at their techniques. Many have games saved on their Twitch channels for people to watch.

That said, this is a game where many players with multiple 60's don't know how to do Sohm Al--and there are actual guides for that--so don't take anything to heart from players you don't trust the expertise of. Whether or not you're new to healing.

If only they would fix the numbers showing on the scoreboard so the healer doing 90% aoe overhealing by spamming it on his party with no enemy in sight doesn't end up with a higher number than the scholar/noct astrologian using shields and keeping people alive in an actual fight, it would fix a lot of misconceptions.

As a noct AST, you can pretty much take your number and double it to have a good idea where you stand against a WHM. Sadly, a lot of people just look at the number that is shown to them...
