About the final boss in Lost City of Amdapor Hard

In phase 2, its magics get corrupted so healing does damage instead and in phase 3, it changes between corrupted and non corrupted magic. Is this a part of the defense of the place gone haywire or is it possible that the corrupted healing is an intended ability by the magi?

She casts a spell called "Reverse" which has been used in Final Fantasies before in order to use her white healing magic offensively.

I don't think there is any corruption and that this is an intended part of Kuribu's workings.

I know about Reverse already. I was speaking in terms of the lore behind the spell. We know that the reason we go to the city a 2nd time is because the magics there had gone haywire or something, so I was thinking maybe Reverse was a part of it and not normal protocol.

Its clear that was made on purpose.

As people especulate, the war of magi force the white magues of amdapoar get the abilities to do more powerfull spells, and the change to do offensive atacks than just succor.
But by doing this they abussed a lot of their power, when the original purpose was just to provide an oposite magic, to the black magic.

The atacks of Kuribu are the evidence of how much the white magic was abuse, by turning their healing spells into damage spells.
Another speculation is about those "Mana pots", curious name, does it? some ppl think that it was actualy like a huge store of aether, probable to use lot quantities of aether on their spells. Imagine how many aether they took of from the lands, i dont think the elementals would be happy about it.
Another expample are the stone golems. Thats a very advanced magic of what original was just a magic spell Stone l.
