    Evolving Gear

im still fairly new to ffxiv and finally reached lv 60 gathering and started get red scrips. my fc member told me all gear gets outdated every few updates and with 3.3 coming out i just wasted all those scrips. I think we should have evolving gear. for example you get the gear in 3.0 and with every major patch their could be quests which you can do to transform the ilv and look of the gear.

You many need the current red script gear to get the new version coming in 3.3. Personally I've bee collecting and holding my red scripts until more is known.

I'm just under the assumption we'll need the current gear to be able efficiently farm the scrips for the new set as it might require a different item to get the counterfoils.

I was also led to believe that the new set coming are the new craftable sets, so I forsee the crafters charging millions for it soon :s

Evolving gear can work if the game is build around it like Blade and Soul, but that game has an issue of the really high level stuff getting super grindy and a pain in the ass to farm, especially when it adds RNG in to the equation.

Yoshi said in a Q&A ( don't remember where so sorry I cannot source, if anyone can, kudos ) the Dev team is considering doing a relic gear set.. but that won't happen until 4.0 if it happens at all. They said they have only ever seen desire for this from the NA community so the idea is likely not popular enough to come into existence.

And you also better believe it won't be a simple quest at each patch to become current if this does become a thing. it would be long, annoying, and tedious just like the relic weapon... if not worse because we're talking about a whole gear set, not just a weapon.

Onto you wasting your tomes.... what???! You did not waste your tomes upgrading. You did it so you could be current for the next set of content. I never see upgrading my gear as a waste of tomes. That fact your friend says you wasted them makes no sense to me. Were not getting a new tome this next patch at all. The next patch is catch up so we're still going to have lore and eso.

What I love about our system is that it is very forgiving of you switching main classes if you lose interest or gearing alt classes so you have variety. I see nothing wrong with the system we have. Yes, I agree with a lot of people, it can be incredibly tedious and boring after a while.. but it works for our game along with our job system.

AS for red scripts or blue scripts. Same concept. You wasted nothing. The next sets of gear are going to be crafted and SE has stated you need to have current gear to be able to make it.

What makes you think you wasted it when you'll likely need it to gather/craft the new things were getting? You would possibly need that script gear to get anything done at all in the next patch. I find it incredibly possible that people who don't have complete end game crafting/gathering sets for their desired jobs are going to have a hard time in this next patch or they are going to be scrambling to catch up.

It sounds to me like you let your friend get into your head. Do what you want in the game. Take advice yes... but if you wanted to gear your classes up why shouldn't you?

I think you did the right thing by gearing up your gatherer. Not the wrong thing.

( note on evolving gathering crafting gear. We kind of had that with the hands in 2.0, I didn't mind it, but I don't think you know what you're asking for c: those tools were incredibly annoying to obtain and upgrade. You can do it now just to see what it was like, but it wont be anything near what the grind was like in 2.0 when the gear dropped at a patch )
