gill and mats instead of scrips or lore for HL gear

an example is in sao season 1 where kirito had to find the materials and bring it to a blacksmith to craft his sword. ffxiv can do something similar. there would be specialized npc's in all doh who would craft the af hl gear for you. you just have to gather the materials, wait a few days for them to craft it and than pay them. These items wouldnt be cheap either. I am thinking a few thousand gil per item. this way it would seem more organic. the greater the item the longer it takes npc to craft. like a really nice sword 1 month while a chest plate 2 weeks

But the blacksmith, Lisbeth in this case, wasn't an NPC. She was a player that had levelled up her crafting skills and then was reselling those skills to other players. Pretty much what we already have in FF XIV already (complete with some materials being rare/expensive and tips for their fee in crafting the items)

Edit: This is actually also exactly what the Eikon gear is, 220 level gear that can be crafted by you or someone else you if you don't want to go down the route of Lore, etc.

this would be for the highest gear in game like lore gear. npcs doh' would be better than player crafters

But... why? I'm sorry, I dont see the point in this? You're either taking away crafting from the playerbase (in which case: No, thank you very much - to put it politlely) or you're just replacing lore-gear with something else. Potionally something that will eat up inventory space like I stuff my face with chocolate - in which case: No, thank you very much.

Infact we even HAVE an NPC whos crafting for us - his name is Gerolt. While he is doing the relic specifically for YOU a lot of his gear can be brought at Rowena's - remember Ironworks? Thats actually Gerolts work that hes crafting for her to pay back his debt. Why do you wanna WAIT for an NPC to make something only for you while you can go to the shoppingcenter? How does that feel more "organic"? Do you have your own dresses made by a tailor aswell?

So basically, you remove Lore (a gathered item) then add in multiple gathered items to take to an NPC for the gear? Basically the same we have now except we need multiple different types of items instead of just the Lore?

It might seem like a easier solution at face value, but it would also take away a lot of what we already have not to mention force everyone to either gather or buy mats off the MB and frankly as much as I luv gathering I know there r many who don't let alone have gatherers leveled.

Asking a crafter to craft some stuff while giving him the needed mats? already ingame.
all what is missing is a personal crafter shop (similar to a personal house, but a bit smaller and in the market streets).
