I'd also rather have an enemy or a group of necromancer enemies than the class itself to be played, just seems more in tradition with ow it's been in the earlier games. But if they do implement it I guess it could be interesting, I highly hope that it's not a western kind of Necromancer though.

But honestly, if we are already getting pet classes like SMN and BST then I don't see the necessity for many more pet classes, (and if there are more then I'd love to have PUP again) especially since these will need some differentiation from eachother. Right now the priority should be mage classes, like Yoshida stated in various interviews.

    1. You know that, despite the name, that hat is for a Red Mage.
    2. I'm not talking about that kind of Warlock.

I'm talking about this kind of Warlock:

I'm definitely not one of the people running around here fighting against change or innovation (jump, can I have it?). But saying that Necromancers and Warlocks aren't very Final Fantasy is just the short answer.

The long answer is that there are plenty of other MMOs that are centered around dark fantasy. Some of the most depressing quests I've ever completed in a game were in WoW's Plaguelands (pre-Cataclysm) and in Icecrown. Warhammer's Dark Elves relished in the pain they inflicted. I was disgusted by a scene where a group of Dark Elves are beating the White Lions' pets. I was hoping EA would remove it after beta, but it still made it into the final product. I didn't feel that animal abuse was appropriate to see, even if it was a video game.

I think that Final Fantasy should certainly grow and change with the times, and become edgier and modernized. But one thing I've always loved about the FF series is that darkness is tempered with hope. Dark classes, however, only serve to change the overall tone of the game. I prefer not to play yet another game that embraces classes who control undead or use demonic magic.

Honestly, IMO, Thaumaturge is pushing it enough.

First of all Necromancer is not apart of the FF history(at least for the good guys). Necromancer in FFVA is a terrible necromancer class that was basicly an blue mage, the class it self was hardly an true necromancer. Only time you will see necromancer in Ff is if they are the bad guys.

As Frion stated, Necromancer has been generally treated as an 'evil' job in the FF games and thus relegated to enemy use only with one exception.

In FFV:advance, a player could become a necromancer, but it was a far cry from the undead horde summoner that is a cliched staple of any western RPG. Rather, the job allowed the player to cast forbidden magic and actually become undead himself. (an approach I might actually support)

My guess is that this brand of necromancy isn't what the OP and other necro fans are requesting...

    Western style Necromancer? (No, Thanks)

Besides being able to control the dead, and being a master of various poisons what else can a Necromancer do? As far as anything I have ever read for Necromancers ever, they only know how to summon/charm/control undead and poisonous magic.

I would love to see a Necromancer or some other type of pet class added to FFXIV that allowed you to have *multiple* pets simultaneously. You could have 8 pets in AoC which was just right.

It would be thrilling to see my tar-Lalafell running around with 8 Life Stealers.

    Thx

I completely agree. I would love to see such a class and here is the Final Fantasy version of the class, it might give the dev some ideas.

I dont mind the idea of a necromancer to be a "dark summoner" even if they changed the name to suit the FF universe it would be a lot of fun. i've also seen lots of people saying they wont have summoners, below is a post i put on another forum about this.

I'm sure they will still add in the summoner the only change/limitation from traditional summoners will be regarding the "gods". i kinda like the concept of once again making them something uber powered for one crazy damage attack, i'm curious as to how they will pull it off. all it means is they will have other things to summon as pet types that are not mini primals. take the elementals, they are a good start, from there they can evolve and grow in power (fire elemental 2,3,4,etc) maybe provide elemental golems, drakes, etc. there is no end of what kind of things a summoner can summon, it does not need to be the primals all the time.

Please give us a little more of an idea of what the summoner will actually do as this is one of the more convoluted classes especially after the little nugget of info about free companies and primals.
to me these summoner and necromancer classes will be like the beastmaster that skips the intermediate step of having to charm the animal. before any of this can be implemented they need to get their foundations set first so i think complaining and speculating about this sort of thing is a little pointless at this point. give SE a break ans stop busting their balls by bombarding them with crap that is, at this point, irrelevant.

Necromancy would be cool but it really wouldn't fit into the Final Fantasy that well. I have never seen a necromancer class in any FF title I have played and personally want to see it stick to the guns. Yoshi-P is working very hard to bring the Final Fantasy feel into this game because to me personally it was severally lacking. The world is starting to come together and actually starting to feel like a Final Fantasy title. Pop Necromancer in there and it would be just awkward.

Now on the otherhand I wouldn't mind if another class got necromancy type spells because that really would fall under black magic.
