If I remember correctly, the only time DRK had a scythe in an FF was XI. Or DRG had a wyvern.
I bet if DRK was introduced in XIV and wielded a sword people would be up in arms as well. DIS IS BLASHFYME

if I can use dead player corpse as pet then I ll vote yes
+1 vote

Nooo
I don't care if it is Final Fantasy-ish or not, I just don't want any necros to run around my sweet and nice Eorzea..
And I think the summoner job is useless if you have necromancer with 8 pets/summons while summoner has just 1..

Of course it has been part of Final Fantasy... and should should be considered here for sure.
Edit: Also, one powerful pet > 8 less powerful pets, but I don't think multiple pets is a totally bad idea either.

Eorzea is going to have a darker feel come 2.0, making "dark" jobs/classes like Necromancer all the more logical.

You could have more then 8 pets in AoC, a lot more. With FF servers the way they are this can never happen. For those that did play aoc... remember being around a couple lvl 80 necros with all their pets out? lag out even high end PCs. I would much rather have 1 strong pet then 16 little ones, especially when you get multiple necros in the area.
And just because necro was a crappy job in ff5 and mentioned in a few others doesnt make it staple FF material. Doesnt matter if they were in old ones or not, traditional necromancers do NOT fit in FFXIV. The same way RPers roleplaying they were raped do not fit in the world of eorzea(there are ppl who do this). Thats not to say they couldnt make it work, THM have a strong respect for the dead, if anything they would want to destroy undead. So you would have to be a renegade THM to want the dead as slaves.
What makes them crappy? And just because necro was a crappy job in ff5 and mentioned in a few others doesnt make it staple FF material. WTH are you talking about roleplayers for? They purchased the disc the same as you, they are entittled to play how they like.
Necromancers were in more then one FF game. Why would they have to be THM related? They can add any lore the desire. That doesn't go to say making it a job of THM wouldn't be a bad idea in the future, as it would work right into the existing lore easily.

i have to ask this, because you seem like a smart guy.You could have more then 8 pets in AoC, a lot more. With FF servers the way they are this can never happen. Why would rape... not fit into Eorzea? i mean, rape is terrible, horrible, traumatic. but do you believe that just because it isn't DIRECTLY mentioned (and it is hinted at) that rape does not occur in Eorzea? a world about to enter a new age of darkness where people's stresses are high and are constantly under siege from beast tribes and the garlean empire?
I'd say it would likely be an unfortunately common event.
As for necromancer. Do want, forbidden magic would be one of the perfect ways to get through an age of darkness, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Much like Summoning Fenrir did for the Crystal War, or becoming Odin's vessel for eternal life (till he needs you that is.)

Necromancer was one of the strongest jobs in FFVa lol, I don't think that qualifies as crappy unless you consider Blue Mage crappy since with the exception of a few spells, it was less powerful than even Red Mage.
Here's Necromancy history in even FFXI:
-During the Crystal War there was a sect of Necromancers whom were banished to the Phomniua Aquaducts as Necromancy, much like Summoning were sooner outlawed and deemed too dark of arts.
-Enaremand wants you to find one of said Necromancers to attach a spirit to his mannequin, Aisha which you then complete the quest and end up fighting Aisha, whom is a very troubled soul given the way she fights you.
-The same technique is given to Puppetmasters for attaching souls to Automata, which in essence, makes Puppetmasters Necromancer apprentices as you're controlling a newly attached spirit to a doll.
So it wasn't just 'mentioned' in prior FF games (with Va and XI being major examples) it was actually pretty rooted in history in the previous FF online game.
So while true, Necromancy isn't linked to FF like say Black Mage is, but it is something that's been found in FF before.
